However, this episode we aren’t just trying – we are achieving. Coming your way in this episode is 16 songs by local artists that are all cover songs. Locals covering songs you may know, you may love. They’re all fascinating in their own way. The last one from Abby Johnson gonna break your heart. I’d say that’s something special.

344: Anxiety Salve

Last episode we officially engaged in Marathon Mode. It turns out, if you make a show every single week for multiple years in a row and then find yourself in a position where you CAN’T make that show weekly – not because you don’t want to but because you just CAN’T – well, then you’re going to find yourself in an anxious place. Not sure what the moral of the story is there but I’m very happy to be marathon’ing the show for the moment. Not my ideal way to release this but at least it’s getting out there.

As you listen, be sure to follow Make Yourself At Home, Wynton Existing, The Welters, Tower Defense, nobigdyl., The BlackSon, $avvy, OGTHAGAWD, Mama Would Be Proud, The Space Cadet, Threnodian and Paramore for the latest from each of them.

343: Upending Historical Precedence

Back again! If you’re a regular listener to the show, you are aware that historically this show came out weekly. Then in 2023, the sh*t hit the fan at my day job and I have not been able to produce anywhere near as many episodes. HOWEVER, I have been paying some attention to new releases and building a backlog. It’s kind of massive actually. We’re nowhere close to getting through it. This episode; thirteen tracks coming your way if you just hit play./p>

The Frist highlights ten Nashville music photographers in new exhibit

On April 21st, the Frist will hold an opening for a new exhibit featuring ten local live music photographers entitled Guitar Town: Picturing Performance Today. The works on view in the Conte Community Arts Gallery are provided by Angelina Castillo, Lance Conzett, Steven Cross, Emma Delevante, H.N. James, John Jo, Laura E. Partain, John Partipilo, Jenni Starr, and Diana Lee Zadlo. If you’re a regular consumer of live music of any sort in Nashville, at least one of those names should be familiar to you.

The exhibit is on view from April 21st through August 20th and we’re fully endorsing swinging by to see it. There’s a nice writeup about the collection over here but here’s the real deal; it’s ten photos by a group of rather talented photographers; it’s gonna be great.

S02.E08: Single White Female

The boys review and discuss Barbet Schroeder’s 1992 film Single White Female, starring Bridget Fonda, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Steven Weber and Peter Friedman. Placing a newspaper ad for reliable roommates in the early 90’s can be truly terrifying. Imitation is often considered the highest form of flattery, but this bitch is crazy! New hair, don’t care; she’ll suck off your boyfriend.

Josephine Foster: Keep Your Dream World Close

Josephine Foster

Josephine Foster is one of most strikingly original songwriters working today. Her songs are like dreams beamed in from another world. She writes songs that are hypnotic, and poetic, which can be haunting and beautiful in the same moment. In this interview, we ask her about her creative process, the importance of daydreaming, how she manages a creative life on her own terms, and her great new album, Domestic Sphere.

Shots! Corpse Reviver

For a Shots episode to revive the soul, bedridden and recovering host Mike Wolf discusses the “Corpse Reviver” family of cocktails, most notably of which is the number 2. Developed and made famous by Harry Craddock at the American Bar at the Savoy Hotel in London in the 1920s and 30s, the Corpse Reviver no. 2 is the ideal daytime/brunch cocktail. Mike discusses other notable variations on the Corpse Reviver and why the number one is due for a big comeback this fall. Also discussed: what to use in place of the now-defunct Kina Lillet, Corpse Revivers in film, and why drinking four in a row is probably not a great idea.

Mike Wolf’s new book Cheer: A Liquid Gold Holiday Drinking Guide is available now! Pick up a copy ASAP!
