Western Medication – “Taste” (Official Video)

The folks over at New Noise Magazine premiered the latest video from Western Medication for the song “Taste” – the titular track off their new album, Taste.

The video itself does a great job of capturing the upbeat spirit of the song as it shifts from bonkers party video, to performance video, to smooshy face singing, to illustrated explosions and back. Seriously, it does all those things over and over again; which is delightfully satisfying.

Much like the “Devils Sing” video, there’s a decidedly “90’s” tone to it but only in that it feels like it was made with the distinct purpose of showcasing a good time.

Volume 112

If there were more distinct episode titles for this show this one would be called “The Lonely Biscuits Apology” – as I learn a hearty lesson about judging a band too harshly simply by having an opinion on their name and not their actual music. Aside from that massive bit of egg-on-face that happens about midway through the episode, there’s a good half hour of new music, collaborations and unique output from our fair city here.

Dan Burns – ‘Wave’

You Drive – ‘New’

The Lonely Biscuits – ‘Endlessly’

Creamer – ‘Drugs No More’

Sad Baxter – ‘Believe Me’

Wax Mistress – ‘A Reflection’

The White Lily x Where They Sleep- ‘Half Lite (ft. VIK)’

Divora – ‘Streets of Ust’Natha’

fan/fiction Season 1.5

Happy Friday! Today we announce the release of Season 1.5 of fan/fiction with Andrew/Zach, our podcast that explores the world of creativity through the lens of fan/fic.

What’s a half a season? Well, it’s both an opportunity to follow up on subjects and ideas from the first season and a chance to release a few nuggets of entertainment that might not fit into a proper collection of shows. So, herein, we have five new episodes that cover a good amount of ground. From a deep dive revisitation on My Little Pony and Puffs: The Play to One Off stories (think of the neglected Mr. Holland’s Opus fan/fic) to The Pilot Episode and bits that hit the Cutting Room Floor; Season 1.5 has a lot to indulge in.

As with Season 1, the entire body of shows is being released at one time so if you feel like binge listening, you can. Here’s Episode 8, the My Little Pony deep dive, to get you going.

Thanks for listening and if you have any topics you want to hear covered in Season 2, get in touch.

S1E12: Cutting Room Floor

Season 1.5
Fan/Fiction returns with a bonus half season of follow-up episodes. Season 1.5 revisits some intriguing topics, takes some deeper dives into subjects from Season 1 and lets Zach/Andrew get a few oddities out the door like the show Pilot and previously cut banter.

This one is like the deleted scenes section of a dvd. These are fun, silly, and often humiliating snippets from the podcast that have been cut. Now they have been stitched together and brought back to life! If Frankenstein is your favorite monster, this is the episode for you!

S1E11: The Pilot

Season 1.5
Fan/Fiction returns with a bonus half season of follow-up episodes. Season 1.5 revisits some intriguing topics, takes some deeper dives into subjects from Season 1 and lets Zach/Andrew get a few oddities out the door like the show Pilot and previously cut banter.

This is the first episode ever recorded for the podcast, released for the first time! Zach and Andrew have even less of an idea what they are talking about than usual. This is a fun trip back to a more naive time before Andrew and Zach read things that cannot be unread.

S1E10: One Offs

Season 1.5
Fan/Fiction returns with a bonus half season of follow-up episodes. Season 1.5 revisits some intriguing topics, takes some deeper dives into subjects from Season 1 and lets Zach/Andrew get a few oddities out the door like the show Pilot and previously cut banter.

In this tenth episode, Zach and Andrew find the loneliest corners of the Internet, pieces of fanfic with only one story written. The following question is pondered. If Avengers has 60,000 stories written and Mr. Holland’s Opus only has one, is the Mr. Holland’s Opus fan 60,000 times more committed? Answers inside the episode.

S1E9: Puffs

Season 1.5
Fan/Fiction returns with a bonus half season of follow-up episodes. Season 1.5 revisits some intriguing topics, takes some deeper dives into subjects from Season 1 and lets Zach/Andrew get a few oddities out the door like the show Pilot and previously cut banter.

In Episode 9, Zach and Andrew go to see Puffs, the off broadway play from season 1. Zach has a nice time. Andrew nearly has a stroke.

S1E8: My Little Pony

Season 1.5
Fan/Fiction returns with a bonus half season of follow-up episodes. Season 1.5 revisits some intriguing topics, takes some deeper dives into subjects from Season 1 and lets Zach/Andrew get a few oddities out the door like the show Pilot and previously cut banter.

For Episode 8, as promised, Zach and Andrew return to Equestria for a deep dive into My Little Pony fanfic. Many questions are answered, but one remains elusive… is it a sex thing?

You Drive – “New”

For the sake of transparency, the following album will be released on yk Records which is the label that I operate, so my bias here is strong.

You Drive is a collaborative project between electronic artist Makeup and Vanity Set and sometimes-Birdcloud, sometimes-solo-songstress Jasmin Kaset. They’ve worked together in the past on various single tracks for Makeup and Vanity Set albums (see “Hand in Hand“) but this new undertaking is presented as an entirely new, unified, project.

The first track from the album, “New”, debuted on Vehlinggo, a synthwave blog known for showcasing albums that exist within the Outrun genre. The track couples the dark, often cold, electronics of Makeup and Vanity Set with the melancholy, often detached, vocals of Kaset. On the surface it would seem this would create a depressive vibe but there’s a hopeful melancholy to it. At least to my biased ears.

Sunroom – Demos

Judging a demo is a tricky art as you’re really listening for the potential of a song, rather than a final polished project. Sometimes they end up being better than the final product and sometimes they’re fascinating sketches of some masterpiece that follows.

Listening to the two track demo from Sunroom can yield neither of those results since we have no idea where these songs will go. What we can do is listen to them and hear a band with quite a bit of spunk and a uniquely enjoyable vocal delivery. If they can just manage to maintain that, they’ll be in a good place.

Divora – Dungeons and Dragons OST

The impetus behind the four volumes of free music from Divora is both compelling and completely charming:

I am just a dude in Nashville who loves creating music. Most of the music on here was composed for the campaigns that I DM for my friends.

If you didn’t catch it, DM in this case means “Dungeon Master” – the all-seeing omnipotent narrator that directs the storyline during a game of Dungeons and Dragons. So, not only is this guy responsible for world building, character development and narrative arcs, he’s also providing a soundtrack for it.

Take your pick between storylines – Special Boy, Maternal Instincts, Born from Blood or just some General Battle Music. All of it has a nice fusion of modern electronic undertones mixed with the expected sweeping themes you’d associate with Knights, Orcs, Dragons and other medieval & fantasy elements.

It should also be noted that the music works quite well when just sitting at your desk traversing the tubes of the Internet, in search of the ever elusive Work Distraction.
