Cloudmouth – “Take Me To a Lake” (Official Video)

Back in July of 2023, we premiered the Cloudmouth track “Take Me To a Lake.” In the time since, they’ve been playing plenty of shows and chipping away at a video for the track. Speaking of which, if you didn’t already catch the Nashville Scene premiere, get this video into your eyeballs ASAP.

Vocalist Kyle Numann has a nice bit of insight on the making of the video over on Instagram, pasted below:

It was the summer solstice, and I asked my wife Emily “will you bury me in the backyard tonight?”. Despite us having a healthy relationship, she said yes.

We’d just finished making a new flower bed in the front yard and had about 40 square feet of topsoil and dirt heaped in a pile in the backyard. For years I’d had a loose vision of a scene of human faces emerges from the earth, and I figured this was as good a chance as I’d get to capture something that would satisfy the creative itch.

We filmed it using a smartphone, with natural light and only an on-the-fly idea of framing and pacing. This ended up setting the tone for the rest of the video: filmed with handheld smartphones, pulling scenes together as we could, using only practical effects, and considering the editing stage as a ‘canvas’ to bring all these disparate scenes together to form a full visual flow.

The burial of Numann in the flower bed is just the start of the video, as his other bandmates find themselves buried (and emerging) in other ways. It’s downright incredible what you can do these days with a great idea and the determination to execute it. Cloudmouth is no stranger to worthwhile videos (see here and here) but it’s always great to see them continue a trend across so many years.

Catch the band live Feb. 10 at The Cobra with Jenny Wood and Feb. 22 at Drkmttr with Zook.

How about that cover photo of Medusa’s Hairdresser? Shot by Chase E, it’s an incredible snap from a band that has announced they’re going their separate ways. Don’t fret tho, that likely just means multiple new bands will emerge from their various members.

Tons of great music in here. Some of it from brand-new-to-Nashville outfits; so for every Medusa’s Hairdresser we lose, we gain a Proteins of Magic. The circle of life. Enjoy the show.

There’s 3 Dan Burns songs in this episode and I stand by my decision to include them all. If you’re incredibly weird and do not like Dan Burns, don’t worry, there’s plenty of Non Dan Burns™ in here as well.

Patrick Sansone – “Measures”

Patrick Sansone announced his debut outing as a solo artist with this upcoming Centripetal Force / Sansonica Records full-length, Infinity Mirrors. The first track to be unveiled from the release is “Measures,” a nearly eight-minute long soundscape of synthesizers that builds, ebbs and flows in a delicate and meditative manner. The oscilloscope-style video embedded above assists in that focused meditation, asking the viewer to keep locked in through the duration.

The record has six compositions in total, each exploring their own sonic territory while still connecting with one another. A full album review can cover more of that topic but rest assured, if you enjoy “Measures” you will the enjoy the variety offered through the rest of the record as well.

Follow Sansone on Instagram, dive into his Discogs, listen to his other bands Wilco, Autumn Defense and Mellotron Variations and keep your ears peeled for Infinity Mirrors to be released on March 1st, 2024

This episode features roughly 50 minutes of new local Nashville music and a tiny rant about the constant need for all spotlighted music to be *new.* A tiny soapbox appears and upon it a call to all who will hear it rings out: “If you’ve never heard it, it’s new to you!” Never forget it.

Create Your Own Normal

Des Stauffer shares with us her journey through denial and grief after discovering, around 20 weeks into her pregnancy, that her daughter Ivy’s cerebellum wasn’t developing at the typical rate. She shares how little help and preparation she received from the medical community and how her faith and her village make her day to day life possible.

Now a mom of two (Lily 18, Ivy 8), Stauffer jumped in with us during the snowpocalypse (she lives in Michigan & would be unimpressed by TN’s winter vortex, but is kind enough not to make fun of our week out of school for a few inches) to talk a little about blended families, teenage oversharing, and share so much thoughtful, learned insight from her experience as a mom to Ivy, her wild, funny, neurodivergent, strong-willed, differently-abled, music-loving, extroverted, youngest daughter.

After focusing on a bit of the harder side of Nashville in the last broadcast, this time we’re softening up a bit with some Pop music. Okay, that’s a bit misleading – these songs go hard, just in an entirely different way.
