Immersing in Nashville Heatwaves

Speaking obviously, there is no shortage of shows in the Nashville area. There, often quite literally, music everywhere. This was not always the case but as the city has grown, so has the diversity, style and quantity of performances throughout our fair city. Documenting all of that music is an impossibility but YouTube channel Nashville Heatwaves has managed to capture a fascinating sliver of it. “Sliver” is an accurate word but there are over a thousand videos on the channel, so there’s a lot to immerse yourself in.

Not everything on the channel is my preferred flavor of music but I can confidently say that none of it is performed poorly – everything I’ve watched has been performed incredibly well and captured visually and aurally just as well. Below are a few moments that stood out to me that you may enjoy but I fully endorse both subscribing to the channel and going as far down the rabbit hole as it goes. There’s gems everywhere.

Lillie Mae Band – Dee’s Lounge – June 2024
You may recall Lillie Mae from her Third Man offerings but it’s great to see this performance clip. It’s short but compelling.
Robbie Hunsinger – Barbershop Theater – 2002
Robbie Lynn Hunsinger makes a lot of immersive and experimental music – a wild discovery to stumble upon within the rest of this channel. Ya love to see and hear it.
Jonathan Childers – Betty’s – Nov 2022
For those paying attention, J. Childers provides the theme music for the show Dizzy Spell. Catching a live version of these space-y ambient jams is a treat.
O.N.E The Duo “Guilty” – Eighth Room
I had not heard of O.N.E. The Duo prior to this but the back story of this song is not one to miss!
Eric Slick/ Jake Botts – Vinyl Tap – Jan 2025
Get some wailing sax in your ears accompanied by some programmed (and explosive) drums from Eric Slick himself.
Andrew Golden – Flamingo Cocktail Club – Jan 2023
I’ve often wondered what goes on inside Flaming Cocktail Club but this was certainly not the answer I was expecting! Jazzy and synthy all at once. Wild.

As noted, that’s just a tiny smattering of the music captured from Nashville Heatwaves. Go find something interesting.
