Back in January, we announced a new podcast called Girl in a Hurry: The Shelly Bush Story. Today, all six episodes are now available everywhere. Here’s the trailer:
On the surface, the show is about country music artist Shelly Bush. She passed away in 2015, ten years ago to the day (Feb 14th). The podcast tells the tale of her epic sets on Broadway and her all female band, Broadband. It tells of her struggles to make it in the industry and how she never quite crested the peaks into stardom. But more importantly, it tells the story of leaving a legacy and having influence without fame. Host and storyteller Ellen Angelico was a member of Bush’s band and continues to have connections to all of her other bandmates from that era, as well as all of the other bands they’re connected to and anyone that saw Bush perform live.
The Scene wrote up a great review of the show and insightful interview with Angelico that I suggest you enjoy to get the context of the show. I especially love this final quote:
“You are more than your accomplishments,” says Angelico. “You may be accomplishing more than you realize. Just because you’re not famous doesn’t mean you don’t matter, and Shelly mattered a lot.”
