How they managed to land this is beyond me but Lake Fever Sessions will be debuting a new session from Cursive next Friday.
With all the upsides of digital distribution – convenience, speed of delivery, volume, etc. – there is one huge blaring downside, the physical retail stores make zero profit from the proliferation of the files. That may be fine when giving it to the huge chains like Best Buy or FYE but when a place as valuable as Grimeys (or The Groove) takes a hit, it’s a damn travesty. Currently it seems like our beloved music retail stores are hanging in there just fine but what if you could obtain digital music and give back to the store? This is the exact thinking behind the Think Indie Digital Distribution project. The exact details of how much of a kickback they get isn’t entirely clear but any amount is better than none.
So next time you’re considering snagging some legal mp3’s, check the Grimey’s Digital Selects before you do so and maybe give a little back.
Heads up via Nashville Mix Tapes.
