Cursive Lake Fever Session

Unlike Joe Colvert I’ve been a fan of Cursive for quite some time. In my opinion, The Ugly Organ is deserving of every bit of praise that it has received through the years. Domestica has some serious jams on it as well. The later works from the band haven’t always gripped me quite as much but that’s the problem with putting out a damn enjoyable record from top to bottom, everything after that has a lot to live up to. That being said, the latest from Cursive, Mama, I’m Swollen, has all the elements that a good Cursive record needs; namely dark themes and Tim Kasher’s undeniably passionate voice. Enjoy the Lake Fever Session and if Cursive is a band you’ve managed to keep under your radar for awhile, maybe now is the time to dig in.

Speaking of the Road to Bonnaroo, Heypenny will also be playing said event and have announced a “merger” with ex-Tommy and the Whale fans to garner support for their performance on Monday. It is not entirely clear how a functioning band merges with a broken up bands fans but they assure us it is not only possible, but it’s been done. The band also tells us they’ll be releasing a video / single / coloring book for the song “Copcar” – available for streaming now on their Myspace.

The soundtrack to a movie that was barely released, Empire Records is a fine collection of mainstream alternative pop/rock, featuring two hit singles — the menacing Motown-meets-Bowie pop of Edwyn Collins’ “A Girl like You,” and the folky “Till I Hear It from You” from The Gin Blossom.

1. “Til I Hear It from You” – Gin Blossoms
2. “Liar” – The Cranberries
3. “Girl Like You” – Edwyn Collins

Unearthed Kindercastle

There are two interesting things going on with this video:

  1. Kindercastle apparently had a public access television show in which they performed Music for Yachting and dubbed every episode to VHS.
  2. It serves as a friendly reminder that they are playing this Friday with Dent May and The Winter Sounds at Mercy Lounge.
