If you’ve managed to miss the vague drama involved with WRVU and their latest decision to cap community DJ involvement at the station to 25 people you should take a moment to read all about it here. If you are familiar with the scenario, you should hop on over and join this Facebook Group; WRVU Listeners Against a Community DJ Cap to show your support. Will an online petition of listeners showing their support for the station but not the new regulations have much of an effect on the powers that be? Maybe not but doing absolutely nothing will certainly not clear things up.
You can further show your support tonight at The End at the WRVU Benefit with Cheer Up Charlie Daniels, Vermicious K’nids, Powerbrrrd and Westfolk.
It’s unfortunately been awhile since we got the official word on the status of Jeremy Ferguson helmed projects but if the recent redesign of the Battle Tapes website is any indication, things are going well. Aside from the fresh design it is clear that there’s a lot on the horizon for the studio; including newness from Tristen, Bad Cop, Eliza the Arrow and Velcro Stars. The lack of a neglected news section is a bit of a bummer but we’re still holding out for the yearly Battle Tapes Podcast.
If it is not obvious by now that Bandcamp is the service to use to digitally distribute your music then maybe their latest announcement will finally convince you. According to this post, they’ve launched a fully operational arm to their already fantastic services that allows you to manage and sell your physical goods as well. Their release says it best:
Starting today, you can sell both your physical merchandise and your digital music from Bandcamp, and better yet, you can sell them together. So, for example, you can easily create a vinyl, poster and download package, give your fans the digital files immediately, and then ship out their merchandise.
It’s as if Bandcamp actually understands the needs of musicians and is catering directly to them without corporate backing or underhanded sleaziness. How this is possible eludes me but it’s true. If you’re still slacking on the Bandcamp usage, hop to it – go sign up and make it easier for us all to acquire new music from you.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year it’s that it is never too early to start talking about Christmas. With that in mind, Keegan DeWitt has released a new EP entitled Christmas Eve featuring Caitlin Rose, Madi Diaz and Roman Candle and a bit of a preview of his next LP. You can grab it in the Exclusive Downloads area of his site. It’s free and it will get you in the mood for Christmas cheer.

Technically, The Magic Wands don’t call themselves a Nashville band and probably would never claim such roots if asked point blank. However, those of us with an idea of the history of bands that have come and gone through our area know that ‘Chris Valentine’ was once a staple of our fine community and we totally understand the disassociation.
Long story short, The Magic Wands make some good song and they’ve just debuted their Daytrotter Session.. well worth streaming or downloading.
Brite Revolution is an up-and-coming website devoted to the idea of doing social good while giving music fans something they want (and a few things they didn’t know they wanted). The basic gist is that you sign up for an account, pay a monthly subscription and get access to a load of music from a particular pool of artists. A portion of your subscription goes to a variety of charities – one of your choosing, one of the artists involved choosing. So, how do you get people to subscribe to a service of such a sort? Offer exclusive material of course! They’ve got tracks from the likes of The Silver Seas, Heypenny, Milktooth, Space Capone and a whole host of others. Granted, the majority of offerings they have available aren’t going to appeal to everyone but for those that it does ring a bell for are going to be privy to a lot of new music and a warm fuzzy feeling knowing part of that money went to doing something worthwhile. At the very least, browse the site to get an idea of the offerings they’ve got laid out – it is a novel, and respectable, idea.
