Another big riff rock track coming in HOT from The By Gods. This is the second song to be released from their forthcoming January release, Get On Feelings. There’s a decidedly 90′s aesthetic to their music but the sincere vocal delivery really makes it work.Â
EL EL “Kiss Kissâ€
The first single from EL EL’s forthcoming 2016 album has been released. I can’t tell if I’ve heard this song before or not but there’s something incredibly familiar about it. Or, MAYBE, it’s just that relatable of a pop song? You know the type.
Bootleg Glory “Booze and Waterâ€
The aesthetic of Bootleg Glory would leave you to believe they are a rawkous country outfit looking to have a good beer swilling time but the music within is much more of a dark, brooding, psych rock or indie pop. Sometimes appearances really can be deceiving. After listening to the above track, be sure to check out “Young Ambition†and “I’m At The Lake†– both showing off an enjoyable diversity from these guys.
Only - “Giant Sunflower / Stagnant Waterâ€
Despite forming in early 2015, I’ve somehow managed to miss the output of Only; comprised of members of WOTT favorites King Arthur and Echo Group. The latest single release is, hopefully, a taste of a full fledged album in 2016. The music has an 80′s pop tone to it, ala Echo and the Bunnymen or even faint whiffs of The Cure, with just the right Pained Melancholy vocal style.Â
Idle Bloom Some Paranoia Full EP
In case you missed it, the entire Some Paranoia EP from Idle Bloom is now available for streaming. It’s incredibly good and I imagine requires many repeated listens.
Idle Bloom “Pride Lineâ€
Another preview track from the forthcoming Idle Bloom release, Some Paranoia (out tomorrow – Dec 4th). Sounds like they’ve really fleshed out and pushed their big riff rock sound even further. Loving what I’m hearing.
Direct to Cassette
Is there an irony in calling your band Direct to Cassette and then only releasing the songs digitally? Probably but that’s not the matter at hand. These three tracks are an experimental undertaking between Andrew Harlan and Josh Marberry – two long time friends and film composers. The results are ambient, drone-y, a bit noisey and pretty perfect for zoning out to.Â

Listen to this live performance from the Pilgrimage Music & Culture Festival this past September in Franklin.Â
PUJOL – Live @ WKDU
PUJOL thrives in a live environment. It’s definitely a different beast than his records (especially lately) but that’s a good thing. The songs take on new life; often much more emphatic and a bit manic.Â
Woman Dance Unfortunate – Sad Songs for Blue-Eyed Lovers
Like Jeff Buckley or other R&B soulful crooners with an underlying Jazz vibe? Well, Woman Dance Unfortunate may be up your alley. It’s plenty of piano and drums combined with introspective ooh’s and aah’s inside sorrowful love tales. It’s got a lot of drive and building tension to it as well and some rather simple cover art.Â

Volume 70
Truth be told, this edition of the podcast was intended for late summer but time got away from me (as it does). Regardless, there are a lot of strong tracks on here that could easily be contenders for the Best of 2015 list. Don’t be like me, don’t sleep on this.

Milktooth “O Come, O Come Emmanuelâ€
It’s been a good while since anything’s been released from Milktooth so it’s nice to hear a little something new. Well, new for our ears at least. The song is an 18th Century Carol so it’s been around the block but Milktooth’s take on it is fresh and the video is a true beauty.
