Volume 72

Oh yea, that’s right, ANOTHER podcast! Just one week after the previous release. How’s that for productive?! This installment of the series is an addendum to Volume 58; the previously released Christmas compilation. Plenty of new holiday songs have been released, a few oversights from the prior release are now included and we revisit the Mouth Trumpet Christmas Album because it is the best thing out there. Basically, listening to them back to back is a joyous affair of Nashville Holiday Musical Goodness.

  1. Timbre – Silent Night (8 Yr Old)
  2. Steelism – Christmas Around the World
  3. Birdcloud – Cool Christmas
  4. David Argyle Thacker – Jingle Bells
  5. Quichenight – Gentrifyin’ Santa
  6. Keegan DeWitt (feat Roman Candle) – It’s Christmas
  7. The Bridges – I’m Going to Lasso Santa Claus
  8. Boom Forest – Christmas Dad

Hurts to Laugh “Nerve”

Start your week off with some brand new rock from Hurts to Laugh. Even better, watch the video to witness Cliff Cobain play every part himself. The ability to do so is impressive but the man has some serious concentration faces – doubly whammy of Worth It!

Volume 72

This edition of the podcast is a little shorter than usual but I’m, officially, calling it an addendum to Volume 58, The Christmas Podcast. In both collections you will find a mixture of heartfelt or feelgood or rocking or melancholy Christmas songs. In this new volume we add on newly released songs, oversights from the prior release and a proper revisit to the David Argyle Thacker Mouth Trumpet Album because that simply never gets old.

  1. Timbre – Silent Night (8 Yr Old)
  2. Steelism – Christmas Around the World
  3. Birdcloud – Cool Christmas
  4. David Argyle Thacker – Jingle Bells
  5. Quichenight – Gentrifyin’ Santa
  6. Keegan DeWitt (feat Roman Candle) – It’s Christmas
  7. The Bridges – I’m Going to Lasso Santa Claus
  8. Boom Forest – Christmas Dad

Faux Ferocious – BLUES LEGENDS

I don’t know what’s going on with Faux Ferocious but they’ve now released two full-length albums in a span of less than six months. Granted, this new album that popped up on Bandcamp, Blues Legends, still appears to be in pre-order mode but it’s still quite a surprise. I’m not complaining – more well made psych rock from a solid Nashville band should be considered a 100% treat.

Brooke Waggoner – Ovenbird

The forthcoming Brooke Waggoner album, Sweven, sounds like it’s going to be the most intriguing release yet. This second preview track, “Ovenbird”, has a mysteriously hushed and beautiful growing vibe to it. It makes the heart ache for unknown reasons. That’s an emotional impact I look forward to more of.

Idle Bloom – Mind Reader

Watch the official video for Idle Bloom’s “Mind Reader” and you’ll get a tour of Nashville complete with memorable buildings, voyeuristic views of natives and tourists and one weird graveyard dance jamout. It’s certainly a weird video but the disgusted looks at the Pedal Tavern passerby’s during the videos final button is worth the viewing. Oh, and the song is quite good too.

VOLUME 71

Still playing a little catchup on the podcast schedule. This edition contains plenty of great songs from the fall of 2015. As usual, if you enjoy the stream, please dive in to discover more from all of these artists; there’s plenty more goodness in there.

  • Happy Little Trees – All My Friends Are Famous
  • The Features – Dreams
  • Sol Cat – The Knot
  • Fuzz Ghosts – Dead Fish
  • Blinds – Mint + Nicotine
  • Kyle Andrews – Pretty Good
  • Friendship Commanders – Jean Dark

Volume 71

Playing a bit of catch-up on these podcasts but I am loving pumping them out more regularly. It seems like someone could do this weekly and it would be incredibly fresh. That person won’t be ME but it seems like *someone* could and it’d be a helluva nice archive of new releases.

…But I digress. These songs were released in the Fall and contain many great songs on the albums they stem from. Let this be the start of your enjoyment.

  1. Happy Little Trees – All My Friends Are Famous
  2. The Features – Dreams
  3. Sol Cat – The Knot
  4. Fuzz Ghosts – Dead Fish
  5. Blinds – Mint + Nicotine
  6. Kyle Andrews – Pretty Good
  7. Friendship Commanders – Jean Dark

Photo Ops – Vacation

Terry Price, aka Photo Ops, announced that his next album, Vacation, will be released on Bad Friend Records on Feb 5th, 2015. You can listen to the first new track “I’d Be Dead” over on the album pre-order page. It’s got a sweet, forelorn nature to it backed with some appropriate backing strings. Looking forward to the full record.

Quichenight – War on Christmas

For me, the best Christmas songs manage to blend a bit of melancholy, humor and sweetness. The Quichenight EP manages to fire on all cylinders in that department. “Cookie, Cookie” is sweet and melancholy, while “Gentrifyin’ Santa” is a hilarious funky tale. Overall, the EP is an upbeat undertaking bookended with a little bit of reflection. Excellent work, Quichenight.

Those Darlins “Female Trouble (Divine)”

The good news: Those Darlin’s have released a cover of “Female Trouble” by Divine. The bad news: they’re going on indefinite hiatus and, effectively, are no longer a band. Their Facebook post spells out the details but it sounds like they’re all just ready to move on. They have several great albums behind them and will likely all move on to great new projects – so there’s a silver lining in there somewhere.
