Thanks to Jacob Jones and Reno Bo for hanging out and chatting. Jacob’s CD release show is this Friday at The 5 Spot and also features Korean is Asian, Will Holland (of Lonely Hearts), Red White Blue, Jacob Thomas, Church of the Good Hustle & Bern Kelly. Also, both Jacob & Reno will be spinning classic soul, doo-wop & garage tracks at the Hot Rocks Dance Party tonight at Mercy Lounge. Come out and shake it.
Anyway, here’s your playlist…
While browsing around last night for potential songs to include on the upcoming Volume 22 of the podcast I stumbled across this cover from The Young Republic of Animal Collective‘s “Grass.” Their version of the song is taken from an unreleased EP entitled Hipster Blues that has no plans at this time of being released. Give it a listen and be on the lookout for more details on their forthcoming LP Balletesque.

The other week while driving home I caught about half of a song on WRVU and immediately, dangerously, pulled up the current playlist on wrvu.org via iphone to see what it was that I was hearing. Turns out it was Dewey Decibel, a local band that I had not heard of but was now extremely curious to hear more of. Turns out the band just released their debut album, The Dusting, and sent over a little contact email to WOTT with some mp3s. I am sold. The band manages to craft up that special blend of pop song that has an underlying forelorn (or sometimes just dark) tone to it but continues to be catchy and engaging. I’ve been playing the crap out of the four songs they sent over and look forward to picking up the full-length.. fingers crossed they’ve got some available at Grimeys.
