New Band Alert: The Garden Leo

gardenleo_flyer_tiny

Here at We Own This Town, we’re are in the habbit of championing those up and coming acts that catch our attention. Thus, we implore you to check out The Garden Leo, a new Nashville-based band making its debut this Sunday at The Basement, along with Cars Can Be Blue (straight outta Athens, GA, Son!) & The Lovely Eels (from Lancaster, UK, y’bloody Yanks!)

The Garden Leo is led by by frontman Burj Herr, a slight, almost bookish fellow with a knack for growing one glorious beard. I was first introduced to Burj’s music several years back thanks to good ol’ Denis Deck, former guitar man for How I Became the Bomb, and have been a following his musical pursuits ever since.

Last we heard from ol’ Burj, he was fronting power trio Orange in Circles, which only played a handful of shows before calling it a day. Adopting Orange in Circles’s rhtyhmic, almost hypnotic pulse as its backbone, The Garden Leo flesh out Burj’s dark pop tunes with jangly, melodic guitar work and thick analog synths.

Check out their brand new track, Proof, for… well, proof. It was produced last weekend by Jason Bullock at Lake Fever (p-p-p-p-PLUG!). It’s a rockin’, tight little gem with a massive chorus that makes me wish I liked The Smiths more than I do (personally, more of an REM guy). Oh, and for all you audiophile Nazi types out there (all three of you), it should be noted that this track has not yet been mastered and will probably go through a new mix before it is released on their debut EP. Keep your ears out for that one, kids.

Anyway, hope y’all dig the track and hope to see y’all out at The Basement on Sunday night. Enjoy.

The Garden Leo – “Proof”

Tristen: "Matchstick Murder"

DP/Director: Jeff Wyatt Wilson of Wilson Independent for American Songwriter Magazine.

From Tristen’s debut LP “Charlatans at the Garden Gate” coming 2009… enjoy!

Carter Administration LFS

It’s unfortunate that the audio mix is from the camera only but it should make the upcoming full session from The Carter Administration just that much more sweet when it debuts next Monday.

It should also be noted that Carter Administration will be playing this Thursday at Springwater with Short Ropes, Millionaire Magicians and Caitlin Rose. Don’t miss it.

Nashville Covers

Yesterday, Aaron Hartley and Janet Timmons put out the request for Nashvillians to submit to them their list of Nashville bands doing covers. While often heard live the cover song is usually not so common recorded. So, if you know of any Nashville bands doing covers worthy of submission for some unknown project – please feel free to contribute. A quick glance through iTunes comes up with:
