There’s a new Daytrotter session up with Brenden Benson, complete with a pretty solid (if pitchy) cover of Superdrag’s 1996 hit “Sucked Out”. Man, I love me some good local-on-local action. Now if only those Daytrotter boys would release that second Superdrag session from last year…
It it safe to say that Heypenny enjoys engaging their audience – moreso than the average band. They are not satisfied to merely play music at them, they want the audience to participate in the shenanigans. While this trick wouldn’t work for every band out there, it works well for them. For their forthcoming Next Big Nashville show they are asking the audience to get their act in gear and come prepared to do their part. Watch the Training video to learn all the proper oohs and ahhs, head out to see them on Saturday and (if you’re lucky) maybe you’ll get a thank you video for all your hard work.
In celebration of the forthcoming Next Big Nashville showcase sponsored by Lake Fever Sessions (and Nashville Cream) it seemed like an appropriate time to theme a podcast around the fine local offerings that the sessions have brought forth. It’s pretty simple, the Lake Fever Sessions are consistently great and playing them back in a convenient podcast format is a no brainer. We’re even taking things one step further with this podcast and offering a zip file of the individual tracks – so if you just want to hear that one Hotpipes cover over and over again, you can easily make that happen.
So, by all means, please download the podcast in your preferred format (or stream it from the link on the left), remember to come out to the showcase and thank the video and audio team from Lake Fever Sessions for all their hard work.

Rock Sellout has a pretty length interview up with Raul Panther, frontman for the Protomen. According to the bands Wikipedia page the band rarely gives interviews out of character (though I did not verify that information) so it’s a refreshingly candid take on the band, their nicknames, their origins, their recording process and their devoted fans.
Once upon a time a roommate asked me if Dan Deacon could play a house party at our place and I respectfully declined. Not that I wasn’t into his dance-y, glitch-y, geeky tunes but I just couldn’t imagine the pandemonium that would take place during and after the performance. Fortunately he’s playing tonight at The End (along with Nuclear Power Pants, Daniel Pujol and Totally Michael) and I’m sure it will be an evening of epic proportions.
Well Gang, Next Big Nashville is once again almost upon us and this year’s gonna be a good one. To get y’all in the mood for a long weekend of great music, late nights, and of course lotsa boozin’ & schmoozin’, We Own This Town Radio is taking the wheel during tonight’s episode of Out The Other for a special preview of Next Big Nashville ’09. We’ll go through the festival’s line-up, night by night, sharing with you our top picks for the big weekend.
And on the off chance that a few of you out there still don’t have wristbands, we’ll be giving away a couple pair during the show. Hey now… who loves you, baby? We Own This Town & Out The Other, that’s who. Tune it in tonight from 7-9pm: 91.1 on the FM dial or streaming in 1’s & 0’s at wrvu.org.
