The Holly House collective has been busy! Recently each band was profiled in American Songwriter and asked to record a song that would best befit their own deathbed. The result? A series of phenomenal covers from some of Nashville’s finest. The best part is that they’ve posted these tracks for free download and they’re ready for your consumption.
And if that somehow weren’t enough of a treat to get you through the week they’ve also posted a series of recordings of original songs from a few of the bands that haven’t seen the light of day anywhere else… which are also free to download!
Long story short, go get them all now.

With the existence of the solo work from Joel J Dahl, the departure from RoadRunner and a long quiet hiatus from the band I would have bet good money on De Novo Dahl being another entry in the Nashville Rock Scene history books… gone for good. It turns out I would have lost that bet as they have just released a three song EP, City Driver, for free download over on their Bandcamp page. Their new, old, label Theory 8 also reports that a new full-length album is due in the Spring of 2010.
The new tracks are much more laid back than the frantic energy of the previous two releases and, personally, a welcome change. Looking forward to more from this latest incarnation and their set on Wednesday at Mercy Lounge (details here).
Along with the Travis session debuting today it appears that Lake Fever Sessions have finally gotten the go ahead to post the epic performance from The Features session for the song “Thursday.” I’ve been listening to The Features for roughly twelve years and I think this song has been around for almost that entire time. With that in mind it’s sort of amazing how enjoyable and uplifting it still is. So, if you call yourself a Features fan, please immediately go partake in their epic performance of “Thursday.” I think it’s safe to say you’ll enjoy it… again and again.
Recently, Fran and Andy from Travis played a show at the Belcourt and, from what I’ve heard, it was a rather fantastic experience for Travis fans. Lake Fever Sessions were fortunate enough to get the duo in the studio while they were in town and record a few tracks from their catalog of works. The performances have a stripped down rawness to them that is difficult to capture without seeing it. I never counted myself as much of a Travis fan but there’s no denying these performances as a great piece of work.
