Help Yourself, Help Nashville

The Nashville 2010 Flood Relief continues on! It’s going to be tough for the next few weeks and months to keep momentum and interest in an event that gets more and more distant in our memories but there is much work to be done. Raising more money is certainly part of that undertaking. People like BOSS Construction and We Are Nashville have taken it upon themselves to create some items that you can purchase that will have the proceeds go straight to the relief effort.

My gut reaction to products made to benefit relief is that it seems a little selfish. You can’t just donate your money, you have to get something for it?! But, with the tiniest amount of reflection, it becomes clear that by procuring items that benefit relief and allow you to continue spreading the word easily is an incredibly good thing. Not to mention the fact that it can act as a community bonding agent amongst those who partake. For example…

  • REBuild This City Benefit Print – just $10, your money goes to the Flood cause, you get a great looking piece of art and a way to start a potentially meaningful conversation with whomever happens to see said print wherever you end up hanging it.
  • We Are Nashville Tee – this tee is tasteful and really makes no direct mention of the Flood itself but lets people know you’re a part of the community of people looking to get things back in proper running order. It’s a small token but it can serve a meaningful purpose. Plus, you can wear it while you go volunteer.

I am sure there are more items of this type floating around out there. Feel free to drop a note in the comments if you find one particularly worthy of mentioning.

Spring time brings a massive influx of releases and this year is, apparently, no different. There are a load of great new things out there well worth checking out and I think this iteration of the podcast will give you a good overview of a lot of them. The styles contained within run a wide gamut; punk, rock, pop, acoustic and experimental ambient to name a few.

Twenty-Six minutes of new tunes for ya that I am fairly confident you will enjoy. Look for Volume 35 in the near future, as there is a whole lot more on the way.
