Misc News

If you don’t happen to be one of those folks that keeps up with Twitter you may have missed out on the following (which would be a shame):

  • PUJOL’s first EP from Saddle Creek, Nasty, Brutish, and Short is now available. If you’re not interested in ponying up $6 for seven songs (why not?) you can snag “Mayday” for free.
  • SoundLand 2011 is right around the corner and to help you get familiar with some of the artists they’ve partnered up with NoiseTrade and released a free compilation.
  • Birdcloud released another video to entice you to buy their album which, frankly, you should do. At the very least check out the tracklisting.. there’s a vulgar surprise in there that’s a welcome treat.
  • The Features released a video for “Content” – it’s weird but perfectly enjoyable if you think of it as some sort of bizarre cable access transmission.

The GoldRoom – The Surrounding Hours

I have been waiting for a proper full-length from The GoldRoom for some time. The handful of singles they’ve released over the past few years – Strangling Gloves, Hang Dry, Rats in the Walls, etc. – have been great teasers but never enough to fully satiate a hunger for a proper album. Fortunately, the band just released The Surrounding Hours and my impatience on wanting more from them has been fully satisfied. They managed to put together a proper rock record that delivers a lot of full-force tracks, some ambient musings and a few slow burners. I’m glad the wait is over but, moreso, I’m glad the end result is actually beyond my expectations.
