Au Ras Au Ras – The Great Nothing

Here’s another entry in the “Yes, this band really is local” series. Au Ras Au Ras is the solo undertaking of Tess Brunet; a musician probably best known for her work with Generationals or deadboy & The Elephantmen. She Kickstarted this album back in 2010, recorded it at Dial Back and has been unleashing it on the world. It’s a quality record that I suggest you spend some time with before hitting up The Basement on Thursday (Nov. 15th) to see her play.

Tess Brunet. Tess was the driving force behind deadboy & the Elephantmen (We Are Night Sky). She also was the drummer for Generationals (Trust EP). She also backed Lady Bo of Bo Diddley on drums.

If you told me you wanted to make a music video featuring a girl listlessly performing ballet with an old school telephone cord around her house I’d say you were barking up the wrong tree but, having seen it, I have to admit that it works perfectly well with the tone of the song and album. Go watch.

Jordan Caress is a talented lady. She’s done time backing up Caitlin Rose, hit the road for long stretches with Tristen and proved her vocal diversity chops with My So Called Band many times over. So, it’s great to see that her solo outfit – Ponychase – has officially released their first EP. They even put it out as a 10″ – who does that anymore? It’s a synth-y, drum machine, melancholy and forelorn bit of pop undertaking. It gets you moving but breaks your heart at the same time.

You can preview the release here or, presumably, pick up the wax at your preferred record store around town.
