Another heavily soul infused burner from the Magnolia Sons gang. Love those horns.

Honey Locust – The Great Southern Brood
I’ve posted about it several times previously but the full-length album, The Great Southern Brood, from Honey Locust is now available. It’s filled with folky influences, sweeping strings and what I like to call Triumphant Melancholy. Also, the cover art features a cicada flying in moonlight – doesn’t that tell you all you need to know?
Ponychase – Parade of Youth preview
We’re closing in on the March 4th release date for the Ponychase full-length record, Parade of Youth, and they’ve been kind enough to post a teasing preview of what’s to come. Everything seems to be in order for some greatness – solid artwork, solid music and just enough anticipation time to whet your whistle. You can download the first single over on Bandcamp.
Gay Vibes – Karate All Day EP
New Gay Vibes? YES! New Gay Vibes being presented by Day Old Records? Double YES!Â
If you haven’t heard the previously released My Baby’s Got Worms you are robbing yourself of some serious goodness. Actually, if you haven’t heard all of the creations from Gay Vibes you’re robbing yourself. So get to it.
Toadies II – “Good Boy”
I love the frantic nature of this song. I may have even posted it before because the band name is SO good. I’d love to hear some more. They’ll be playing at Noa Noa tomorrow night, Feb 15th, for those interested.
Sherbert – 2013 Never Happened
Everything we recorded in 2013 and then some, gloriously remixed and mastered to shine on state of the art audio cassette technology. Available in limited edition cassettes, 2/15/2014.
There’s a very strong late 90’s throwback vibe to what Sherbert does but they do it so well that you can hardly count that as a complaint. The super sweet, jangly pop sounds wrapped around snarling Fuck You lyrics are a combination that I can’t get enough of.
Denney and The Jets – “Bye Bye Queenie”
The first track from the first full-length Denney and the Jets record – Mexican Coke – out April 8th on Limited Fanfare / Burger Records.
Honey Locust – “Wilderness”
another preview track from the forthcoming The Great Southern Brood
Kin Ship – “Monster”
Never let it be said that album art is not an important element of putting a release – big or small – out into the world. Maybe I’m biased as a graphic designer but the latest single from Kin Ship’s forthcoming full-length caught my eye, literally, and now I’m enjoying some soulful tones inspired by the likes of “Nilsson, The Kinks and what you miss about your father’s record collection.” Not too shabby guys.Â
Natural Child – “Out in the Country”
I’m not gonna lie.. I’ve never really been into Natural Child. I think they do their thing well, are talented guys and great performers but there’s always been something about their Fuck You, Smoke Pot ethos that rubbed me the wrong way. Or maybe I, personally, just didn’t get it. That being said, I’m rather enjoying this offering and it makes a bit more sense to me than prior undertakings. Either I’m becoming less of an idiot or the band is opening up a little bit. Win win.
Tyler Black – Oh No, Old Glow / All These Times
Nothing wrong with a little straight ahead pop-rock and Tyler Black’s new single proves it wholeheartedly. The lead track “Oh No, Old Glow” has the energy you crave when dreaming of the forthcoming summer months. “All These Times” has that nice melancholy punch running underneath that we all know I’m a total sucker for. Looking forward to more.Â
