Denney and the Jets – Mexican Coke

I dunno what it is but I’ve always enjoyed the somewhat lackadaisical delivery of Denney and the Jets. It’s got a drunken party vibe to it and I can get behind that. It’s like you can HEAR the audience swaying back and forth in a drunken daze having a great time.

Uncle Skeleton – “VHF” official video

Big news in the world of Uncle Skeleton today. First and foremost, it’s his birthday – so wish him a happy one. Secondly, it marks the official release of both the Official Video and Digital Single for “VHF” the lead track off of his latest album, Too Young, Too Old.

Directed by Jonathan Rogers and team, the video is a delicate balance between sexy, surreal and a bit of macabre. I have watched it so many times already and expect to watch it so many more. Please do the same and grab the single!

Scale Model – Star

The first full-length album from pop aficionados Scale Model is now available. The list of talent that worked on the record is impressive – Jeremy Ferguson from Battle Tapes recorded it, Matt Mahaffey from Self mixed it, John Baldwin mastered it – but that’s just name recognition to get you in the door. The album is a strong show of force for anyone that likes keytars, sugary-sweet female vocals with a heavy dose of melancholy and explosive dance-y choruses. If you’re into true Pop music, this is for you.

Tipper Whore – “Tipper Whore Party Program”

It’s fitting that Tipper Whore’s brand new single is fresh out of the oven as of today as they actually formed as a band on this day in 2012. April Fool’s Day is not the likeliest candidate for forming a band but when you’re making feel good, free wheeling, music for pleasure – it just makes sense. The track is the first taste of their forthcoming full-length, Just the Tip.

Jensen Sportag – “One Lane Lover”

If you didn’t hear Jensen Sportag’s last full-length release, Stealth of Days, you may not realize they’ve been moving into a territory that feels like it cops some very distinct 80’s production values. This new track, “One Lane Lover”, continues that trend of vaguely familiar bass tropes and forelorn vocals but emerges from the more ethereal styles and feels more in your face (for lack of a better turn of phrase). It’s more up front and more confident. It’s slow groove danceable but still continues to be the solid backdrop for a sexy evening in front of a fireplace with some rare cheese and wine

Makith – Rare Meat

Describing minimalist electronic soundscapes is rarely enticing – both in text or speech – but with a good set of headphones I was quite pleased by this collection of sounds from Makith. Most of them are short little journeys but sometimes those are the best trips to make.

Ascent of Everest – Devil’s Damned to Try OST

Yesterday, I mentioned the new short film Devil’s Damned to Try and then immediately dove into the original soundtrack from Ascent of Everest. It’s a haunting piece of work and works on all the levels that a solid soundtrack should work on – as a standalone work and as a charging backdrop to the onscreen action. All involved should be quite proud of this, it is dramatic in all the right cinematic ways.
