PANGS “Cannonball”

If you go back and listen to the original creations from PANGS, it makes 100% total sense that they’d record a damn fine rendition of this Breeders classic.

JEFF the Brotherhood – ZONE

Put on some headphones, crank them up to the point of drowning out everything around you and you’ll be close to the immersive live show experience.

DEFY Film Festival

Coming up this weekend – August 19th – 20th – is the first DEFY Film Festival, a collection of shorts and features that looks to “celebrate the film, not the genre.” 57 Films in two days is a lot of films but the lineup looks great and I’m happy to see the film world thriving in Nashville.

Birdcloud announce Singles Only

Birdcloud have announced pre-orders on their double-LP containing all the hits from their previous releases. The “cum colored” discs are up for sale on their site now.

El El “When She Walks”

I saw El El in Mike Birbiglia new movie, Don’t Think Twice, and was pleasantly surprised to see Nashville representing in such a fine movie.

Speaking of pleasant surprises, enjoy the latest from El El – off their forthcoming Mom+Pop release GEODE, due October 21st.

Savoy Motel

While it doesn’t seem that it will be released until late October, you can get a taste of the new Savoy Motel album with the just released “Souvenir Shop Rock”. It’s a laid back, R&B affair that gives just a taste of the horn-tinged goodness that is sure to follow in the fall.

Crack Mammoth – CRK MMTH

Maybe I’m showing my age but there’s something distinctively 90′s about the Slacker Anthems that Crack Mammoth is cranking out on their debut EP. They’re laid back until they’re not. They largely laid back and gently rolling along until they’re not; exploding into big crunchy guitars and call-and-response guitar tension. It works for them quite well.

RW Smith – Nashville Strychnine Demos

The self-inflicted mood board of words that describe these demos consist of “wurlitzer, canned soup, fleas, expired IDs, pawn shop mics, bob dylan and the decline of western civilization.” What more do you need?

by ever – but i am

I’ll be honest, 99% of the time if I encounter a collection of bedroom recordings featuring a reverby guitar and a solo voice I steer away pretty quickly but there’s something about the delivery of by ever that grabbed me. Maybe it will for you too.
