Sturgill Simpson – Late Night with Seth Meyers

Watch Sturgill Simpson play “Welcome to Earth” from the cavernous Warner Theatre in Washington, DC; broadcast on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Lister Brothers “Another Game to Play”

As we all know, Nashville is a diverse landscape of music. A rich tapestry you might say! However, I don’t encounter a whole lot of Pop music like what I’m getting from the Lister Brothers. It’s got that Jellyfish vibe of being upbeat and fun but with just the right amount of darkness and tension gurgling up. I’m quite curious to hear more.

Jay Leo Phillips “(Do the) 20th Century”

Fact: Apollo Up! is one of my favorite bands. Even still, I can listen to any Apollo Up recording and get the same joy out of it as I did the first time.

Fact: I feel this same excitement with the new solo release from frontman Jay Leo Phillips and his album One Million, One Million, One Million. The same sense of restrained and exploding tension is present but with a new vibe brought on by the more mechanical drums and production.

Fact: I’m putting out this record on my own yk records so I am 100% biased but I truly believe this album is GREAT and the more you hear of it, the more you’re going to agree.

Ultimate Funny 104

While We Own This Town is a music focused blog, that doesn’t mean we can’t branch out from time to time and feature some other worthwhile endeavors coming out of Nashville. The whole point of this site is to shine a light on creativity that is atypical of what people think of when they think of Nashville.

But I digress, dig your ears into Seth W Person’s latest installment of his podcast, The Ultimate Funny.

Brooke Waggoner - “Fink (Body Talkr Remix)”

Happy to see that Brooke Waggoner is going to be releasing remixes of  her phenomenal album Sweven. The first taste of this undertaking is available on all your streaming services and does a great job of reworking the song. Looking forward to more from this project as they roll out new songs every month.

GAY VIBES “W E M E L T” (ft. Leticia Wolf)

I’ve been a big fan of GAY VIBES since their first EP and this latest single is a phenomenal progression in sound. It maintains the same engaging beats and laissez faire mood but with better production. I dare say it’s even more accessible without being watered down.

Looking forward to the full EP, RIP SUMMER, coming this fall.

Wildfront “Strange Gold”

We previously mentioned “Sinking Moon” from Wildfront as a quality progression in their sound; headed more towards shoegazing bedroom pop. “Strange Gold” continues that evolution with this beautiful video to boot. If you enjoy Beach House, this will be right up your alley.

And to keep things even more relevant, they recently posted “Song to the Siren” for your ears to enjoy.
