From the forthcoming Seen Comin’ From a Mighty Eye – Skyway Man treats us to a bunch of silly dancing in the desert seeped in rainbow effects straight out of the 70′s. If I didn’t know any better, this guy is laying the groundwork for a cult and I want IN.

The Paperhead, Chew
The album won’t be officially available until Friday, Feb 17th, but you can stream the brand new LP from The Paperhead right now over on Hype Machine. I’ve no idea how these guys flew under my radar for so long but I’ve been listening to their catalog non-stop. It’s clearly got a bevy of influences along the lines of psych folk, 70′s rock and even some Latin infused goodness but it manages to be its own thing.Â
Excited to get my hands on the vinyl version of this and immediately file it as Best of 2017.
Mouth Reader “Crying On Meâ€
It’s been awhile since I’ve heard from one of my favorite Murfreesboro bands, Mouth Reader, but they just released a single new track “Crying On Me†and it’s a promising, fuzzed-out, 3-minute riff rock jam. That’s a wordy way of saying it’s a rock track that I’d love to hear in a tiny venue making my ears bleed.

Nikki Lane on Highway Queen
Bandcamp recently posted an insightful interview with Nikki Lane in which they discuss her upcoming Feb 14th album, Highway Queen, her aesthetic and what it means to be an “artist.†That last bit could be deemed a little controversial because it openly recognizes a curated look and feel; both to the music and to the Nikki Lane persona. Does that make the entire undertaking insincere or just wisely crafted to appeal to a particular audience? That’s some good discussion for your next writer’s roundtable discussion.
Aside from that, take some time to watch the video for “Jackpot†and preview the song exclusives here.
Promised Land Sound “By the Rainâ€
Recorded with Pat Sansone (Wilco) and Billy Bennett (MGMT), the latest from Promised Land Sound is a psychedelic pop gem worth your time.Â

Little Bandit “Bed of Bad Luck†– Rolling Stone debut
Watch the official video for Little Bandit’s “Bed of Bad Luck†off the forthcoming Breakfast Alone over on Rolling Stone. The video is accompanied by a nice interview in which Alex Caress discusses the subversive nature of the video.
Welles “Are You Feeling Like Meâ€
A brand new band out of Nashville with bookings at Bonnaroo and a debut on Uproxx is sure to cause a little skepticism but the debut track from Welles is well worth a listen. What starts as a bedroom DIY bit of tinkering slowly grows into a pop explosion.

Tower Defense has released a b-side from their Stay Inside recording sessions entitled “Not Safe.†It’s in the same post-punk vein as the other songs from the EP but with a bit more lean in on the pop side of things.Â
lylas – Warm Harm
Surprise! New album from lylas released today. You can listen to Warm Harm in its entirety on the streaming platform of your choice. You can also give “Number None†a spin if you’re not ready for a nine-song commitment.Â
The album features a slightly new lineup for the band from previous albums, which has resulted in a fuller sound and an even darker, brooding sound than ever before. Looks good on em.
