SoundLand 2012 announced their official lineup yesterday. The festivities this year have been cut down from a multi-day affair into a one off event with two stages down on the Riverfront with My Morning Jacket, Young the Giant and Divine Fits headlining. The local support for the event is spectacular – PUJOL, Nikki Lane, The Weeks, Kopecky Family Band, Wild Cub and Mystery Twins to name a few.
It’s easy to jump straight into negativity regarding the overall change but, personally, I think this could be a great new undertaking. What’s easier to grow into a rousing successful annual event – a multi-day, multi-venue, city wide extravaganza with bookings that attempt to appeal to every genre of music or a one-day, multi-stage event that caters mostly to the rock / indie / Lightning 100 set? It may have made things smaller for SoundLand but it also made things much more sensible.
