It may be superficial but there’s a prideful moment for a band when they can say they’re playing CMJ. It’s a huge, internationally recognized, festival and despite competition from loads of other events (SXSW namely) it still seems to carry a considerable amount of clout. That being said, it’s nice to see some Nashville representation on the list of accepted bands. Most of them are Infinity Cat related in some way so whatever bad you may have to say about Be Your Own Pet, you can also thank them for raising Nashville a little farther out of the stereotyped dredge of country music.
According to some SonicBids press releases, some talking around town and my own browsing here is a short list of Nashville bands playing sometime in the Oct 20 – 24th of CMJ.. feel free to let us know anyone overlooked.
- And The Relatives
- Denney and the Jets
- Natural Child
- JEFF the Brotherhood
- Daniel Pujol and Some Beaus
- Heavy Cream
Addendum: Turbo Fruits

hey guys
we like your site lots. it is probably 1 million times better than ours. but we saw this post and we just had to say that Be Your Own Pet had nothing to do with the setting up of an InfinityCat showcase for CMJ. It’s actually a Nashville’s Dead & Infinity Cat Records Showcase. Its at the Charleston on the 23rd. Lots of fun! Just had to set a couple things straight, ya knowww?
Wed September 30, 2009 at 1:25 pmYea, sorry to imply that it was Be Your Own Pet that set it up – I meant more to say that the mere existence of Be Your Own Pet put Nashville on the map of being a source of viable rock. They weren’t the only band but the high level profile they achieved certainly seemed to help.
If that’s a totally bad assumption I understand and apologize for misrepresentation but it was really more of a “hey, Be Your Own Pet set the stage for this kind of goodness”
