Giving Thanks for… Battletapes

Jeremy Ferguson, aka the man behind Battletapes, has provided some insight into his latest projects. Hopefully this will become a regular feature around here; not only as a show of appreciation for working with a ton of great bands but as a way of informing / building anticipation for future releases.

This time around we get the scoop on the likes of Shoot the Mountain, Forget Cassettes, Hotpipes and a ton more. It is mind blowing how many projects he’s involved in. Continue reading for the goods…

  • mixing more with shoot the mountain today, we’re finishing up the first half of songs that will comprise their full length.
  • worked with tristen yesterday; we’re working on 11 or 12 songs at the moment for her record and it’s coming together very nicely.
  • worked with what was forget cassettes (beth and doni) some last week — and will more this week — fixing up the recordings they started in austin with mike mccarthy… we’ll be tracking 3 or 4 new songs to finish out the record in the coming weeks then mixing it sometime in january.
  • recorded the tits last weekend and have started some editing and rough mixing on that; it’s very nasty.
  • recorded another 4 songs towards another 12″ with heathern haints; very epic and trance-inducing.
  • just finished mixing the new umbrella tree record, entitled The Letter C… zack (the tall one) recorded it in lieu of practices this past year. it’s reaaaaaallly good.
  • finishing a new turbo fruits 7″ to be released on fat possum early next year. will be going to a studio called Welcome to 1979 in january for 3 weeks to do the new record with the new lineup.
  • finishing a new hotpipes 7″ to be released early next year.
  • just finished mixing the new lylas record. it’s real beautiful.
  • doing a new ep with the privates next week; really excited about that.
  • should have the new hands down eugene 180gram LPs of White Stone / Black Witch this week so, the 2 hours a day i’m awake and not working, i’ll be assembling those!

so, that’s this past month and looking into the coming months.

other exciting things…
there’s a new studio called Welcome to 1979 (the one where we’re doing the fruits album) that’s this massive all analog studio… massive like 40,000 square feet massive. i can’t wait to spend three weeks there… i’m also excited to have three weeks away from battle tapes so i can have some long-needed tech work done on some gear… there haven’t really been many ‘down days’ for a while so stuff that breaks stays broken, namely stuff that i bought broken and haven’t had fixed up yet.

i’m also excited about space exploration.

thanks!
jeremy

  • Jeremy,
they just found a squid with elbows about two miles down in the ocean that looks like an alien so let’s do the space exploration there. Sounds good?
