Anchor Thieves – Monolith

The specificity of it is hard to describe but there’s a raw confidence throughout the latest full-length release from Anchor Thieves that really carries the album. The fuzzed out guitars and dreamy vocals are expertly executed through the ten songs but the variety of small details that crop up in each song are what have me smitten. Listen to the squelching resolution of “Space Stash” or the guitar string swipes of “Algo Siento” to hear what I mean.

After playing in various bands for over a decade, Anchor Thieves have their feet firmly planted and clearly understand what it means to make an album that looms large from a cursory listen and rewards you even more when paying close attention. The title Monolith is appropriate, as the album is a big, unwavering, striking presence.
