Voting is Priceless (VIP), a local non profit and Barack the Vote (Nashville Loves Barack Obama, a grassroots volunteer group) are holding concerts in Nashville to promote voter awareness and register people to vote. We will be holding shows every few weeks, with a finale in January a few weeks before the Primary. Our goal is to impact unregistered voters, make them aware of the importance of the Presidential Primary on Feb. 5th, and register them to vote. These shows give us a great opportunity to get the word out to young voters, who statistically have the lowest voting turnout at 49% (national average in 2004). In Tennessee only 39% of voters 18-29 voted in the 2004 Presidential election. Voter turnout is even lower for the Primary. The Nov 30th show is very important because it is before the registration cutoff for the Primary.
