Catching Up With Battle Tapes
Jeremy Ferguson, mastermind of Battle Tapes, was nice enough to catch us up with all the craziness he’s been involved in for the past few months.
last we spoke of the old battle tapes schedule, i was getting ready to go into the studio with turbo fruits, i think. well, the january session ended up being sorta preproduction/warmup for the new fruits lineup in the studio at welcome to 1979 and we cut 11 tunes, one of them making the bside of the new “Mama’s Mad Cos I Fried My Brain” 7″ that fat possum released earlier this month or something. we completed recording for what has become the 18 songs which are currently being put into possible varying track orders for LP2 in the uk and us. it’s a really fantastic group of tunes and i’m really excited for people to hear it… should be out around the end of september or beginning of october, i’m thinking.
We Own This Town News
Two important items from We Own This Town that you need to be aware of:
We Own This Town Tuesdays
Every Tuesday throughout the month of June (except the 9th) we will be presenting a series of shows at the Mercy Lounge. The final lineups for each of these nights is still coming together but expect some familiar names mixed along some newcomers. The first show is this coming Tuesday, June 2nd, with the likes of The Comfies, Codaphonic, This Modern Station and more! We’ll be announcing the rest of the dates very soon but we expect to see you out on June 2nd.
We Own This Town Radio Showtime
The goodness of We Own This Town Radio has been moved to Monday nights from 5pm – 6pm. This is great news as it starts off a four hour block of shows that includes Holly House and Out the Other. So, basically, from 5pm – 9pm every Monday you can hear some fantastic radio on WRVU 91.1 FM.

Milktooth unveiling
Milktooth is a new band around town set to release their first self-titled EP on June 13th at The Basement. If you check their Myspace you’ll see that they’ve filed themselves under “Melodramatic Pop” – a category that might sound like a horribly deadly combination for any self respecting band but, oddly enough, it’s an apt and successful description of their sound. This is largely in part to the vocal work of David Condos, which often sounds desperate, extremely anxious and.. well… melodramatic. But it works! The music compliments this anxiety and energy perfectly. I, for one, am quite intrigued to see how it all plays out live as the preview EP I received has proven to be a worthwhile listen.

Bows and Arrows
I’ve been listening to the latest album, 1010 Eaton Street, from Bows and Arrows pretty regularly lately and it reminds me of a lot earnest lo-fi pop indie tunes from the college days; particularly the male / female vocal duos. It’s a bit off rough in parts but comes across as endearing and holds a bit of promise for future releases. Be sure to check them out with Au Revoire Simone at The End on Monday, June 1st.

Keeping Up With Nashville
Various items worth taking note of:
- The Basement is now on Twitter. Follow along.
- The Rock N Roll Trivia Night at Mercy Lounge was a total success. Turns out they are also on Twitter and will be posting hints about upcoming questions on their feed. Keep up!
- You wouldn’t assume Keegan DeWitt would put together some great dance mixes but if you check his After Hours blog you’ll see that he does exactly that.
- Theory 8 Records now has RSS feeds for their news, releases and downloads… well worth throwing some (or all) of those into your favorite aggregator.
