Next Big Nashville 2009
Next Big Nashville is now accepting applications for the 2009 festival (Oct 7th – 11th). The submission process requires two songs, $10 and knowledge of basic information about your band. It should be noted that while the festival focuses on up and coming Nashville acts it is not exclusive to our fair city – submissions are welcome from any band interested in playing, regardless of where they call home. This will, presumably, garner more exposure for the festival and get a bit more variety in the lineups.
Get your submission in quickly as they are closing the door on applications July 13th. That’s a tiny bit over a month – not much time at all when it comes to mobilizing bands.
Volume 23
A little late on delivering this one (according to the self imposed “every three weeks” rule) but it’s chalk full of good stuff. Several new acts introduced here that you should check out (Milktooth, Bows and Arrows, The Lake, Paper Navy) and serious goodness from artists you should already love (Cortney Tidwell, Ole Mossy Face, Codaphonic, Hands Down Eugene).
Overall my personal opinion on this one is – worth multiple listens and digging a little deeper to hear even more.

A Week From Today

Do yourself a favor: take out your planner, your calendar, open your iCal, Google Calendar, whatever method you use to remember a worthwhile date. Make a note for next Tuesday, June 16th when We Own This Town presents Glossary, And The Relatives and Millionaire Magicians at Mercy Lounge.
Hopefully I do not need to explain why this date is worth noting but, in case I do, be sure to download the following proof.
→ Glossary – Almsgiver
→ And The Relatives – Bereavement (Demo)
→ Millionaire Magicians – Snap Out Of It

And The Relatives: Lake Fever Session
At this point in the lifetime of And The Relatives if you haven’t played “Cowboy Jazz” to death, you’re probably not going to. Personally, I’ve attempted to run that song into the ground and it just will not stop being enjoyable to listen to. This, if you did not pick up on it, is a total compliment. That being said, the bands cover of The Ledge from Fleetwood Mac is the perfect summer jam replacement.
The point here is this, the Lake Fever Session from And The Relatives contains both “Cowboy Jazz” and “The Ledge” – a perfect combination to introduce a new listener to the band or to satisfy an established listener with some quality goods.
Through Adversity to the Download
In case you didn’t know it, this weekend was the 65th anniversary of the Normandy invasion – aka D-Day. It was also, perhaps more importantly to the content of this site, the official release date for the fourth installment of the How I Became the Bomb digital EP series. Through Adversity To The Stars can be downloaded over on the bands website for the price of one valid email address (preferably yours).
The three tracks; “Atlas”, “Harvest” and “Gay Guy” finish out the first series of free downloadable EP’s and the band plans on releasing their first compendium of tracks in a physical form (likely CD and vinyl). Look for that in the late summer / early fall but in the meantime – go get your download on.
