St. Vincent Lake Fever Session

Last week, after a twelve and a half hour work day, I ended up bailing on the St. Vincent show at Mercy Lounge due to exhaustion and lack of familiarity with her work. I made the mistake of twittering about this and loads of people replied to me that I was a fool for not sticking around to catch the brilliance of Annie Clark. Fortunately, Lake Fever Sessions put together this session earlier that afternoon so I’m able to experience what I was missing out on to some degree.

The Champion and The Time Closet

Following up on their most enjoyable debut, The French EP, The Champion and His Burning Flame have released Song & Film – their score to the independently released film The Time Closet. The majority of the album is instrumental in nature (it is a score after all) but the bands penchant for strings, handclaps and epic pop leanings makes for a compelling listen, even without having seen the movie it accompanies. Digital versions of the twenty tracks of goodness can be purchased on their official site for a mere $5. Worth every penny.

Wrapup

Items worthy of note:

  • Bonnaroo is over. You can finally breathe easy now knowing that every 2nd article / tweet / update you encounter online won’t be about the festival. The Cream’s coverage was worth a read if you haven’t taken it in already. Sean Maloney is an excitable guy but he’s going nothing on Kingsbury.
  • Keegan DeWitt will be re-releasing Islands internationally via Izumi Records. To tide fans over until the full scale release in September he’s releasing an EP entitled Wild Heart which will be available at shows. You can snag the title track here.
  • If you missed Andrew Bird at Grimey’s you can still experience it via the goodness of YouTube. Watch it here.
  • Tomorrow is the second We Own This Town Tuesday at Mercy Lounge. Rest up and prepare to attend. No excuses.
