Elle Macho: Rock Band

As promotion for their upcoming EP, , Elle Macho is releasing a series of videos documenting their Popular Music Tour. In a Monkees-esque episodic venture the band explores different genres / looks to appeal to the masses; ultimately learning a hard lesson that the best band to be is just themselves.. Elle Macho. It’s cheesy, filled with bad acting and lots of poking fun at themselves but it’s also refreshing for those same reasons. They’ve already experienced Mod Night and now they’re taking on Rock Night. According to my sources at Tugboat I believe there are three more coming down the pipe over the next few weeks.

Semi Local Ardent Sessions

Oh No, Oh My - Royal Bangs

It’s a tiny bit of a stretch in terms of pure local relevancy but one could argue that both Oh No, Oh My and Royal Bangs have some serious ties to ole Music City. Respectively, one was based here for a hot minute and the other lives right up the road; not to mention being linked with Infinity Cat. So, all rationalizations aside, let it be known that both bands were involved in the latest offering from The Ardent Sessions. You can listen to an hour long set split between the two bands right here. Enjoy!

Locally Crafted Mixtapes

The music contained within might not be entirely of the local flavor but the craftsman behind them certainly are. Feel free to partake in these free mixes from some local artists.

wott_zutalorsmix

The Zut Alors have released the second podcast in their ongoing series featuring music they are listening to, making themselves and having remixed of them. Looks like you can only get it via iTunes but who doesn’t have iTunes these days?

wott_afterhours

Keegan DeWitt writes a good bit of introspective, somewhat heartbreaking, music but when it comes to creating monthly mixes for his After Hours project he goes for the gold with the dance tracks. There are roughly 50 tracks contained here but a running time of 30 minutes. That’s alotta songs! Go download it.

Return of The Goldroom

Many years ago I was given a CD of four untitled tracks from a Murfreesboro band labeled “Gold Room.” I listened to these songs obsessively – they were loud, aggressive, and somewhat dirty in their production but always had a memorable edge to them. I was sadly informed that this band had already broken up by the time I got my hands on the disc.

Much to my delight it turns out that The Goldroom has actually been busy practicing and recording for the last year with the results now emerging. You can stream one of their new tracks, “Broken or Missing”, from the widget included here but be sure to investigate all of their Bandcamp offerings for more worthwhile tracks.

With a little bit of searching it turns out there is actually a decent Internet presence for the band, I’d just never thought to look for it as I assumed they were still defunct. Please enjoy:

This Modern Station – All We Leave Behind

wott_modernstation

Did you know This Modern Station have officially released their full-length All We Leave Behind? Did you know they’d launched a legit website to keep the general public informed of their activities? Well, you know now and it’s a good thing because All We Leave Behind is a solid pop record with a nice underlying vein of darker times emerging from the seemingly bright tunes. You can pick up the record at Grimey’s or procure it digitally from CD Baby – either action is recommended.

What Is Toehead?

wott_toehead

It’s not entirely clear what Toehead really is based on the information (or rather, lack of) from their Internet presence but it is obvious from the 13 minute opus on their Myspace page that they have a serious flair for the dramatic and the epic. It’s a schizophrenic journey drawing influences from the likes of Pink Floyd, proper R&B and Lord of the Rings and yet, somehow, it miraculously works. Hopefully more will emerge from this project or, at the very least, a Bandcamp page where the masterwork can be downloaded and listened to in the privacy of ones home.

Good news for DND fans

listening to seven new De Novo Dahl songs. new album on theory 8 in 2010. sounds like traveling thru space in 1981 and that’s a good thing.
