NBN 09 Pick: Saturday

So if you didn’t expend all your energy last night you’ve got one more chance to really grab on to this whole Next Big Nashville experience and consume it for all its worth. There are no shortage of activities tonight but here’s what we recommend:

  • 8:30 – make a tough decision. Go see The Privates at Exit/In or see Hands Down Eugene at The 5 Spot. Personally I’ll be on the East Side but either band is bound to deliver the goods.
  • 9:30 – Attendance is mandatory at The 5 Spot for And The Relatives. Sure there are other things going on but we’re making opinionated picks here.. and ATR is the only way to go.
  • 10:15 or so – make an appearance at The End for the Infinity Cat Showcase; Daniel Pujol will be playing around this time.

And here’s where the going gets tough.. you must choose your fate amongst the following:

  • Spend the majority of your night could be spent at The End watching Infinity Cat bands (with a “secret” show from JEFF at 1:30 – no joke)
  • Hit up the Exit/In to catch up on some of the hyped bands like Matt Friction and the Cheap Shots or Jemina Pearl
  • Tone it down a notch and see The Silver Seas over at The Anchor
  • Get your epic rock opera on with The Protomen over at Mercy Lounge and find out if the audience participation is up to snuff with Heypenny directly afterwards.

Whatever happens; good luck. You’ll probably need it.

NBN 09 Pick: Friday

Friday is a tough one for Next Big Nashville as there is no clear cut single destination to park yourself. Granted, you can’t go wrong with the takeover of Tootsies or the WOXY Showcase at Exit/In but maybe it’s time to jump on the Shuttle and jump around a bit.

  • 8pmThe Clutters play at Tootsies as part of the Chicken Ranch Records Takeover showcase. This is likely the greatest idea to have spawned from the entirety of Next Big Nashville.
  • 9pmCortney Tidwell hits the stage at Exit/In as part of the WOXY / Future Sounds showcase. I have yet to hear a single negative review of any performance from her.
  • 9:30Mean Tambourines play over at 12th and Porter. There’s something about their vaguely snide delivery that hits me just right. Call it a guilty pleasure or just call it well done rock.. they put on a good show.
  • MidnightEureka Gold headlines late over at The End but I’ve heard tale that they’ll be debuting some new songs, so well worth attending.

There are a whole lot of individual artists playing tonight that are worth trying to see but there’s only so much time you can cut between venues. You’ve got a pretty safe bet with Tootsies or the Exit In / The End combo but be sure to check the whole schedule and make your own decisions!
