NBN Discoveries: Jasmin Kaset

While this years Next Big Nashville is as much about national acts as anything else I tend to like to keep things focused on discovering local gems that I’ve somehow missed in the past. For example, I’ve heard tale of Jasmin Kaset for some time now and even included her song “Window Shopping” on Volume 32 of the podcast but I’d never actually seen her live. So, last night at The Basement I rectified that little problem. Much to my surprise her backing band was comprised of a lot of familiar faces – Jordan Lehning, Aaron Irons, Adam White and Larissa Maestro among them. The songs certainly fall into the “pop” category of things but there’s a nice blending of elements containing folk and a dash of electronic wizardry. In other words, the songs are accessible, familiar and catchy but also just the tiniest bit weird, making them just that much more engaging to listen to. I’ll let my limited review vocabulary rest from this point forward and just deliver the facts;

So it begins…

NBN

Well, it’s that time of year again – Next Big Nashville 2010 is underway. The Curb center at Belmont is an enormous room for the bevy of daily panels and speakers ready to share their knowledge.. so large that you can come and go without disturbing the pro’s on stage or anyone else in the audience; the ideal setup. Tonight’s band lineups are sparse but the next few days will, hopefully, prove to be the premium mash of national and local acts that the festival has been striving for over the past few years. Not that you do anyway but don’t expect too many updates here on the site throughout the week as I’ll surely be nursing a hefty hangover every morning when I should be writing.
