If you don’t receive the Grimey’s newsletter or read our tweets you may not be privy to the knowledge that Radio Free Nashville WRFN is potentially in the position to upgrade their signal. Here’s the exact blurb from station organizer Ginny Welsch:
With the passage of the Community Radio Act earlier this year, and the subsequent opening of formerly unavailable third-adjacent frequencies, RFN may have an opportunity to change to a clean frequency, one with no other station on it and no interference, that will greatly improve our reach into Nashville and beyond. The FCC is meeting today to determine if LPFMs like our will be allowed to apply for the frequencies and take precedence over already filed translator applications to make the move.
So, how can you help? Well, if you’re experienced in the world of FCC forms you can get in touch with them to help them with the application process. If, like me, you’re just a regular schmo that wants a quality replacement for the loss of WRVU, you can make a donation. The more funds they have the better suited they will be to keep the ball moving forward on filling our airwaves with an eclectic and varietal landscape of sound.
Continuing on with our non-music related postings, please take some time to check out the Nashville Bearings Guide; a blog focused on loads of lifestyle activities (food, entertainment, clothing, etc). The content tends to cover more of the South than just Nashville but it does cover new, worthwhile, store openings like J & HP or favorite new haunts like no. 308.
Robyn Burns, half of WOTT faves Action!, recently started a number of new projects worthy of note. First, an Etsy store specializing in vintage goods. Most of the offerings are for the ladies but there are a few gems for the guys too. While this is certainly worth keeping an eye on, her supplemental blog – The Tiny Boot Blog naturally – has really been doing a great job lately of showcasing many of Nashville’s goods. The Porter Flea Market, food reviews, local photographers and a load more.
Long story short, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
