If you’ve somehow managed to stay ignorant to the fact that SoundLand 2011 is going down in two days, kudos to you… that takes some serious skill. Avoiding Twitter, Facebook, banner ads or even The Cream is not easy. But for those of you that are aware of it and are gearing up for the launch this Wednesday I will suggest that you go snag the Mobile App – either for iPhone or Android. Don’t have either of those? Okay, just visit the Mobile Site but do something because you’re going to want a convenient schedule in your pocket when it comes time to hop around town in an attempt to squeeze in as many of the shows as possible.

While browsing around the Nashville tag of Bandcamp I stumbled upon Calicocat and the demos for their forthcoming album This Is Heavy. While it’s only four tracks and they’re meant to be “skeletal” versions of the final output you can certainly get a sense for what they’re going for – a straightahead rock record with great focus on a non-stop energy and some big riffs. Fortunately, they’ve also got some chops outside of that realm if it’s not your thing (it should be). Be sure to swing over to their page and check out “Dance Number” and “Place to Stay” as well.
