If you’ve read The Cream this morning you’re already aware that lylas will play at The Basement with Youth Lagoon as a celebration of their new Snow Day 10″ release. I won’t rehash the information but I will point out that if you’re looking for the tiniest bit of levity within the wealth of somber tunes (appropriate for a snowy day) then just put “Satan Smith” in your ears.

Tristen Christmas 7″

Tristen has posted a Kickstarter Project to help her fund a Christmas 7″ featuring three of her favorite holiday tunes – “Blue Christmas” (Billy Hayes & Jay W. Johnson), “Winter is Blue” (Vashti Bunyan) & “Frosty The Snowman” (Steve Nelson & Walter E. Rollins). You may remember those last two from previous editions of the Christmas Battlepod. They are, in my opinion, phenomenal versions of the songs worth having pressed into a convenient vinyl format.

Long story short, go support the project.

Fake Brad

Thanks to the Dixie Downturn hosted 8 Off 8th on Halloween I caught a short set from Fake Brad. The high energy chiptunes onslaught was certainly the last thing I was expecting to end the evening with but I’m glad it happened. Unfortunately there’s no proper album, EP or compiling of songs ready for release to the world yet so, in lieu of a legit review, I’m pointing you towards his SoundCloud collection. I feel a fool for just now giving it a proper listen but better late than never.

Umbrella Tree Presale

Umbrella Tree have a new album on the way. They’re planning to officially release To The Memory of a Once Great Man in Spring of 2012. However, you can get your hands on an early vinyl copy by pre-ordering it now. You’ll get a digital copy of the album in December (of this year) and a copy of the vinyl when it is officially released – for just $15.

Based on this teaser video I think it’s a pretty safe bet that it’s going to be an album worth having sooner rather than later. Go get it.
