From the looks of the calendar it seems like every venue has something going on tonight. So, how to stick out in the crowd? Well, if you’re Echo Group, you release a quality new song, make it a free download and gently remind people you’re playing at The Basement tonight with Ponychase and The Deloreans. Not a bad tactic!
SoundLand 2012 announced their official lineup yesterday. The festivities this year have been cut down from a multi-day affair into a one off event with two stages down on the Riverfront with My Morning Jacket, Young the Giant and Divine Fits headlining. The local support for the event is spectacular – PUJOL, Nikki Lane, The Weeks, Kopecky Family Band, Wild Cub and Mystery Twins to name a few.
It’s easy to jump straight into negativity regarding the overall change but, personally, I think this could be a great new undertaking. What’s easier to grow into a rousing successful annual event – a multi-day, multi-venue, city wide extravaganza with bookings that attempt to appeal to every genre of music or a one-day, multi-stage event that caters mostly to the rock / indie / Lightning 100 set? It may have made things smaller for SoundLand but it also made things much more sensible.
Take some time today to watch Tristen perform for Live & Reel. “Doomsday” has been posted and available for all.. with “Wicked Heart” lying around the Internet if you just poke around a little bit looking for it. It’s always nice to hear these songs from Charlatans at the Garden Gate but I’m starting to get antsy for material off of the next album!
