Hammock – Departure Songs

Departure Songs

If anyone needs a subject for a case study of a band doing things right, let Hammock be your first candidate. In promotion of their new double-LP Departure Songs they have released a video trailer, a free download, a preview stream and a gorgeous music video. The actual release is available in digital, physical and extra special limited edition formats. AND they also managed to create a lush post-rock / shoegaze / instrumental / ambient collection of songs that is enjoyable to listen to. This isn’t even my preferred genre and I am quite keen to put this one on loop.

The Kingston Springs – The Kingston Springs

Today marks the official release of the full-length album from The Kingston Springs. They’ve worked hard, hit the road and stayed steady in their commitment to being a successful rock band – and seem to be achieving it. It’s actually quite a boast worthy story if you’re open to it. The album is actually full of top notch slower tunes – Lover, Kinda Shaken, etc – mixed in amongst the upbeat rockers; a quality surprise to me upon listening.

Nest Sects

Remember that 8 Off 8th that was comprised entirely of bands that existed only for that one night? Well, one of those creations was Nest Sects – with members Mike Sheperd (Tower Defense), EG Cameron (Forget Cassettes) and Matt Glassmeyer (Meadownoise). Above is one of the songs from their set.. kind of a shame they only existed for that one evening.

What else did I miss that night?

Murfreesboro Music Compilation

Murfreesboro has always been a hotbed of musical activity. There’s an ebb and flow to the level of activity coming out of the college town but there’s always something worth paying attention to. Jason Dietz has been working with recording bands from the area for the better part of a decade and can attest to the quality that’s always present. So, when I saw that he was raising funds for a compilation I knew something good was in store. He’s planning on recording a bunch of bands and distributing the physical discs for free. Getting the word out about music is often the hardest part of being a musician… so, contributing to such an endeavor from such a trustworthy (and reliable) source is a phenomenal way to spend your dollars.
