In promotion of the forthcoming March 1st release, Don’t Hate, Demonstrate, Beat Bums have posted this simple performance video. There are few plans for them to play many live shows so this will have to fill that need for the time being.

Mike Butera / Laura Hutson / Tony Gonzalez
Dr. Mike Butera is an musical electronics entrepreneur (Artiphon) and Sociology professor (Belmont). His research is in Sound Studies with a focus on the phenomenology of listening in social spaces. Mike will discuss a problematic analogy between listening and metabolism.
Laura Hutson is the Arts Editor at the Nashville Scene. She moved to Nashville from New York, where she graduated from NYU with a degree in art and anthropology and worked under award-winning European historian Tony Judt. She will present documentary footage and photography of schoolchildren, community rituals and ephemera that she shot while living in rural Kenya in 2005.
Tony Gonzalez is a news reporter for The Tennessean who first began writing at his high school newspaper. One of the only things he’s been doing longer than that is juggling. He’ll show how hip hop has inspired a renaissance in contemporary juggling and explain why jugglers keep wondering whether they’re artists or athletes.
Our speakers will talk for about 15 minutes apiece. The rest of the time will give everyone a chance to discuss & hang out.
As always, it’s FREE, and there will be coffee and food aplenty.
