Mercy Lounge and Brooklyn Brewery are proud to announce YOU CAN’T DROWN THE LOUD SOUND, a benefit for famed Brooklyn garage rock label Norton Records, whose warehouse was ravaged by Superstorm Sandy. In addition to seeing nearly a quarter million records submerged by six feet of water, they also experienced invaluable damage to musical instruments, master tapes, over one hundred thousand spare record jackets, thousands of vintage paperbacks, magazines, photographs, and posters, as well as Norton artist files and correspondences going back thirty years.
This fundraising show will feature performances from The Ettes, The A-Bones (with Ira Kaplan from Yo La Tengo and original sax player Lars Espensen), Daddy Long Legs and Weekend Babes, as well as a special late night performance from Har Mar Superstar. Tickets will be $15 at the door, but a limited amount of $10 presale tickets will be available at Grimey’s New & Preloved Music, The Groove Record Shop, and Parlour and Juke Hair Salon .

Magnolia Sons – “Nobody But You” b/w “Hey Emmaline”
<a href=“http://magnoliasons.bandcamp.com/album/nobody-but-you-hey-emmaline” data-mce-href=“http://magnoliasons.bandcamp.com/album/nobody-but-you-hey-emmaline”>Nobody But You / Hey Emmaline by MAGNOLIA SONS</a>
Magnolia Sons – “Nobody But You” b/w “Hey Emmaline”
More of the nu-soul sound from Magnolia Sons in their preferred format – two songs at a time (historically, the main way to consume this style of tunes).
Bad Cop – “Chicago Lady” b/w “Mama Said”
Listen to “Mama Said” immediately. Best track yet from these guys.
Just a bit of a technical heads up for everyone. The calendar listing system has changed from every show being manually entered to being Powered by Songkick. There are multiple reasons for this: 1) More than one person can easily add shows to the calendar now. 2) Shows added to Songkick show up on Bandcamp profiles; this is good for everyone. 3) Adding / modifying shows within Songkick is incredibly easy (probably too easy) and allows for adding new shows to be an understandable process by anyone.
Hopefully this means that the calendar can be kept up to date more easily and more accurately. That is, after all, the point of the sidebar, right? If you want your show listed, make sure it’s on Songkick!
new album available from my little label project. It’s a dense one but if you’re into emotive female singers backed by dark electronic tunes, it’s a great one.Â

Honey Locust – The Great Southern Brood Kickstarter
Raising money for an album via Kickstarter is a tough gig. Honey Locust has been making the rounds for awhile now and is ready to record a full-length record – The Great Southern Brood. They calculate that they’ll need approximately $5k to record and release the album which, honestly, is a pretty low amount considering how much hiring strings, recording an album and releasing on vinyl can cost. Give their pitch video a watch and see if you’ve got a few bucks to throw their way.. you’ll get a free live EP instantly for your contributions.
Forget Cassettes – O Cursa
Available Now
It’s unfair for me to review this record. Not only is it part of my little label experiment but I’ve also known Beth Cameron since she first started making music. I was at the first Forget Cassettes show and have had a (small) hand in helping to promote every endeavor she’s had in the past twelve years. So, I’m quite biased. I like that she’s exploring new musical territory and continuously willing to bear her whole emotional self – and, in this case, her whole physical self. It’s a dense album and a rewarding one – I’m sure it’s especially cathartic if you can relate to the basic premise underlying most of the songs.
not my favorite Features video but still a good song.
