Hotpipes – “Answer Your Telephone”

HotpipesAnswer Your Telephone

Another week, another reminder that Hotpipes have a new record coming out May 7th. The band is also playing this Saturday at Grimey’s Record Store Day celebration and I imagine they’ll play this one. The video features a pretty freaky looking paternal demon figure – you know, as a good video should!

Congratulations  to Richie on winning Road To Bonnaroo Round 3. If you haven’t listened to his new album, Night Games, yet, do so now.

new album cover for The Silver Seas… #alaska

any Silver Seas is good Silver Seas but Silver Seas with art from Sam Smith is even better.

Record Store Day 2013 is this Saturday, April 20th. By the end of the week you will likely be overwhelmed with updates about it but there’s a ton of great stuff going on around town worth participating in.. so better to plan earlier than not.

Grimeys / The Basement – this is a no brainer and always insanely packed. Performances from The Features, Hotpipes, PUJOL and a bunch more.

The Groove – every bit as good as the Grimey’s celebration in my opinion. Lots of affordable vinyl and performances from Tristen, Forget Cassettes, Western Medication and a bunch more.

Fond Object Grand Opening – you know there’s a new record store opening up in Inglewood right across from The Village Pub? Well, there is and they have performances from Promised Land, Cheap Time, JP5 and more.

There are plenty more events going on than those listed above – i.e. The 5 Spot 10-Year Anniversary – but those are the heavy hitters. Mold your day around that.

Har Mar Superstar / The Ettes / A-Bones / Daddy Long Legs

Mercy Lounge and Brooklyn Brewery are proud to announce YOU CAN’T DROWN THE LOUD SOUND, a benefit for famed Brooklyn garage rock label Norton Records, whose warehouse was ravaged by Superstorm Sandy. In addition to seeing nearly a quarter million records submerged by six feet of water, they also experienced invaluable damage to musical instruments, master tapes, over one hundred thousand spare record jackets, thousands of vintage paperbacks, magazines, photographs, and posters, as well as Norton artist files and correspondences going back thirty years.

This fundraising show will feature performances from The Ettes, The A-Bones (with Ira Kaplan from Yo La Tengo and original sax player Lars Espensen), Daddy Long Legs and Weekend Babes, as well as a special late night performance from Har Mar Superstar. Tickets will be $15 at the door, but a limited amount of $10 presale tickets will be available at Grimey’s New & Preloved Music, The Groove Record Shop, and Parlour and Juke Hair Salon .
