Now that all that Halloween madness is out the way, get your act together and head down to The Stone Fox tonight for the Tristen record release show for CAVES. It’s a solid record and an equally impressive show bill.
Non-Commissioned Officers – Make-Out with Violence OST
Halloween Soundtrack! As the soundtrack to a zombie love story it makes sense that the Non-Commissioned Officers debut, Make-Out With Violence, would work perfectly for today’s creepy mood. This Bandcamp entry is the tiniest sampling of a greater work.. if you don’t own the whole record already, find a way to fix that problem immediately.
Makeup and Vanity Set – Never Let Go
Halloween Soundtrack! Lets be honest, the entire MAVS catalog could be the theme music to any creepy holiday but, for my money, Never Let Go fits the bill the most perfectly. Start here and wind your way through the rest of the discography.
Shaboi – Curse Walk
Halloween Soundtrack! There’s no better collection of electic songs about Halloween themes than Shaboi’s Curse Walk. Seriously, nothing tops this.
All Them Witches – Our Mother Electricity
It’s Halloween! Celebrate with some proper dark tinged Nashville music. I like to start off my day with a proper dose of All Them Witches.. there’s a Remastered version too but, honestly, I love this original version the most.
Hotpipes – Only the Young
Right outta left field, brand new Hotpipes video! Directed by Brinn Daniels, this video goes into some dark places – adultery, alien beings, children feeding on bodies, etc. You know, standard Tuesday stuff. It’s a fine piece of work and serves as a quality reminder that Dust is one of this years best.
Count DRIZZLE – Chickn Wang
I mentioned it on Twitter last week but if you haven’t seen the new Count Drizzle video, go treat yourself right now.
Joshua Morse – VLAD
In celebration of Halloween week I’m going to try to post some stuff this week that, thematically, makes sense. Joshua Morse does a great bit of chiptune and videogame music but this particular EP is themed around Castlevania – the Nintendo classic aimed at hunting down the king of vampires. It’s a fitting mix and a fun listen. Available via GameChops.
Count Drizzle – Chickn Wang
I tweeted about it late last week but if you missed the 2013 installment of absurd rap goodness from Count Drizzle, waste no more time – watch it now.
There are prior installments as well. You should just go ahead and watch them all.
Andrew Combs / Steelism split 7"
I’ll be honest, I’m a bit partial to the Steelism side of this 7" but I’m happy to see that it exists no matter what. You can pre-order the digital or physical version over on the Electric Western Bandcamp. Highly recommended weekend listening.
Meadownoise – “Hair Just So”
What’s this? A new Meadownoise track? And a promise of new music being released more regularly over the coming months? Yes, Please!
The song is a slow build with that melancholy introspection tinged with  humor and a bit of tension that Mr. Glassmeyer does so well.Â
Sexx – Surf City
I’m kind of a sucker for loose, raucous rock songs that still manage to give a hat tip towards some anthemic chorus. This has a nice sloppy swagger to it and a helluva good band name.
