Joshua Moore is best known for hammering out the drums for the likes of The Katies, Bright Age and The Jane Shermans but he’s got plenty more musical goodness to give to the world. V to Z is his newest solo project in which he plans to release one new track a month, for free, over on Bandcamp and Soundcloud.Â
The first released track, “King Swim”, is a great sign of things to come. Instrumental rock with plenty of ethereal swirling, change-ups, slightly off-kilter breaks and post-rock tendencies. If he can manage to keep this up for another eleven installations, we’ll have a helluva album on our hands.
In case you missed it, JEFF has a new track available from their forthcoming album Wasted on the Dream – due March 10th.
If you’re a Superdrag fan, please take note of this Bandcamp account – run by John Davis. Aside from his solo releases and some great covers there is a rather compelling collection of demo’s from Industry Giants, the 2009 (and final) Superdrag release.Â
Natalie Prass “My Baby Don’t Understand Me”
Congrats to Natalie Prass for getting her latest preview track, “My Baby Don’t Understand Me”, to premiere over on vogue.com. Also, congrats to her for being a solid songwriter and performer. It’s a heartfelt piece of work that manages to feel on the verge of explosive upbeatness and heartwrenching confession. Rather looking forward to that self-titled album due on Jan 27th.
Matthew Glassmeyer’s Meadownoise seems to consistently find itself doing things a bit different. From retracting his first EP from the Internet (sold out is sold out), to releasing an album in portions through the course of a year (see Dark Digest), he approaches things a bit different.
The latest endeavor in this realm is his live performance of “Think Like a Monkey” mixed with “Deafened by the Ring”. The video, recorded at Matt Stager’s Electric Kite studios and is intercut with various images from nature. It’s not entirely off the wall in its approach but it is a little left of center, exactly the way I like my Meadownoise.
It’s back! After uploading 63 previous episodes I felt inspired to make another installation. I mean, who ends on 63 iterations of something? It’s insanity. I wouldn’t call this a “Best Of” but it certain culls many of my favorites from the huge gap between episodes. Whatever it is, it’s 40 minutes of enjoyable Nashville music.

Recorded in 2010 and released, now, the debut album from Litton Lions is a pleasant grouping of melancholy pop gems. The vocal stylings of Jerry Campbell are very distinct and a welcome return as I haven’t heard them around since the last Millionaire Magicians release.Â
This release may just be a one-off but it’s seven great songs the world didn’t have previously.
Don’t do that to yourself Date Night. These three songs may not be as polished as your brain imagined but the rough-around-the-edges performance, visceral energy and enjoying-yourself feeling that comes from the recordings is really working. Maybe they are demo’s but let’s not call them rough.
Heads up. You now have plans for February 13th.Â
Though it’s self-described as ambient, the latest from Black Static Line, Enil, is much more immersive and captivating than such a label would lead you to believe. Ambience infers a general vibe or atmosphere created by a particular work – which is true here – but their longform soundscapes demand more attention than just a background feeling. There’s a serious shoegaze and post-rock vibe happening here, particularly with tracks like “Vendue."Â
I can imagine seeing this live is ear-splitting loud and completely encompassing. Just how you should listen to the record, loud.
