Firebreath Media – Firebreathmas Compilation 2014
This compilation of Christmas songs from Firebreath Media has many interesting points to consider:
– I’ve heard of almost none of the artists prior to this listing, new artists!
– There are some awesomely offbeat tracks here, including (but not limited to), “Town Hall” and “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”
– All monies earned go to the Nashville Rescue Mission.Â
Andrew Combs “Foolin’”
The first single from Andrew Combs 2015 full-length album All These Dreams is now available in the form of “Foolin’.” If this Skylar Wilson / Jordan Lehning produced track is any indication, that album is going to be a good one.
Rock Paper Scissor – The Mouth Trumpet Christmas Album
I’ve posted this many times before and, if all goes well, I’ll post it many times again. This is the best and only Christmas album you need. I imagine these mouth sounds were toiled over for weeks on end because the end result is absolute perfection.
Here’s the thing, I’m not overselling this. Yes, I’m using way too many italics but there has never been, nor never will be, a great compilation of Mouth Trumpet Sounds performing Christmas Classics.
Anchor Thieves “Relapse”
It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Anchor Thieves and their previous release, Malefactors, but they’re backwards! This time, with two new songs continuing to carry the torch of fuzzed out pop-rock.Â
Nahnee Bori – Mr. Man
I fully admit it’s a bit of a stretch to post the latest album from Nahnee Bori as a Nashville project but bear with me – it’s a damn fine album. The artwork from Rachel Briggs really helps to sell the idea that the music within is being orchestrated from some otherworldly place. It’s childish but it’s also chaotic and a bit weird. It fuses the styles of his previous two albums quite well – finding the balance of experimental & ambient with pop sensibilities.Â
Is it a bit weird? Yea, it can be. But it also has moments that I think that are legitimately beautiful.
Scale Model “El Cheapo”
Directed by Seth Graves. An excellent combo of green screen, crappy effects, fun costumes and clear instruments.Â

When you’re known for having a big, immersive, wall-of-sound, ear bleeding style rock show, it behooves you to release some live renditions of your songs to remind people what they’re missing if they’re not coming to see you. All Them Witches took it one step further and just released fifteen live shows on their Bandcamp site. The studio stuff? Nowhere to be found. You snooze, you lose. Same goes for these recordings I’m sure – get them while you can. Who says the Internet can’t have some scarcity?
Honey Locust – “God Bless the Blues (Live)”
This may be old news by now but Honey Locust has a live 7" available on Wild Kindness Records. The b-side is “Always On My Way” and by simply purchasing the vinyl you get an entire digital EP of goods. Sounds like a damn fine deal to me.
C.N.i. Cow – Bangin’ n Twangin’
Apparently C.N.i Cow have been making music since the mid-90s but I’m just now stumbling upon their surf rock offerings. It does it a disservice to say that it is exactly what you’d expect when you think of song titles like “Gidget and The Rogue Wave.” It’s upbeat, it’s dance-y and it’s probably the exact pick me up you need as we enter the winter-y months.
Fumbled – I Wish My Computer Could Sing
Some lovely bedroom electronic knob twiddling to get you through the week. The band name mixed with that album title create a nice atmosphere for the tone of the record – augmented by a note from the author:
listen to this album in the cracks of the day when you have time to yourself to think.Â
That’s some solid advice for digging into this relaxing world of pleasantly enveloping sound.Â
