Penicillin Baby “Stick It Out”

It’s always a treat to see a Nashville band pop up on the deluge of PR emails that I get on a daily basis. Looks like Penicillin Baby has given themselves an upgrade and are promoting their newest track “Stick It Out” – potentially from a forthcoming full-length album.

I’m happy to hear anything new coming down the pipe from them. That artwork is unreal.

MELK – All The Punk Girls

Three Rhode Island natives transplanted to Nashville making bedroom rock-and-roll. Moreso, making enjoyable, carefree, rock-and-roll. There’s something particularly endearing about opening your album with a song called “Us Being Silly” and then following that up with some riff-rock properly mixed with classic rock style guitar solos.

Keep an eye on these guys

Bryan Dixon “Only God Can Stop Me Now”

I received a message from Bryan Dixon asking to check out his EP, Never Be Hopeless, as he had poured his heart and soul into the creation of the three songs. It’s hard to turn down that kind of enthusiasm!

After diving in it’s definitely a little outside what you normally hear on WOTT but it’s got a strong pop sensibility and I can see it getting the crowds hopping!

V to Z “Ape Tree”

The monthly track experiment continues from V to Z (Joshua Moore) with this sometimes creepy instrumental piece.

NPR First Listen: Andrew Combs, All These Dreams

Well done Andrew Combs – an NPR First Listen feels like a legit honor.

save/quit “in tights”

I’ll be real, at first listen I thought this new track from Save/Quit may not be for me but there’s a cool, reserved, sweet sadness to it that builds over time. Sit with it and let it grow on it, as I’m sure it will.

Just a heads up, the sidebar of shows here on the site is now powered by do615. We were using Songkick – quite effectively – but do615 does a great job of really showcasing all the options around town AND having an interface for nerds like myself to consume that data. So, if the sidebar here ever seems a bit meager, just head over to do615 to find out what you can get into for the evening.

Greywoods “Never Again”

After a weekend of sixty’s girl group doo-wop goodness and orchestrated love songs, it’s good to temper your musical intake with something a bit more brutal. Greywoods is that brutality. Clocking in at 7 minutes, your palette will certainly be reset from any lovey dovey feelings you may have been having.

Jasmin Kaset – “Lionshare”

The fine folks at 80JD put together this gorgeous video for a track off of Jasmin Kaset’s latest, Quiet Machine. The footage is culled from a variety of museums, zoos and aquariums. If you’re paying attention, you can see that the imagery is hinting at the cycle of life, a well played and subtle arc. Oh, and it’s a wonderful song if I do say so.
