Really loving this Murfreesboro based psych outfit, Mouth Reader. Everything outside of the music is pretty damn perfect – great name, compelling artwork and a lathe-cut pop-up book vinyl. The best tracks, for me, are those that start as a slow burn and expand into a full-on encapsulating wall of sound (see “Freak†and “I Woke Upâ€).Â
Disappointed in myself for not being aware of these guys before now but glad to not have missed the boat entirely.

Some quality hard rock coming out of this EP. Emotional vocals, big rock explosions and plenty of opportunity for fist pumping. Â The submission for this collection came through the wires with a note that members of Sexx, Rales, Sainthood and Superduper comprised its ranks – more than enough of an endorsement to give it some ear time.

Asher Horton is better known for his work in Fox Fun but there’s something about this solo release that feels a bit less formal. It’s bedroom pop so it’s not overproduced but it’s still got a nice flair for the occasional flourish of sound.Â
Great video from the new Benjamin A Harper album – simple and appropriately reflective of the melancholy style and layered harmony. Don’t be fooled tho, the whole album is not this style – this is just but one of many approaches Mr. Harper investigates. An enjoyable style but not a one trick pony. Dive into the record after your eyeballs enjoy all this has to offer.
Last Friday, Benjamin A. Harper released his latest solo effort, Get Thee Behind Me. The undertaking is a lush one – filled with harmonies, a wide arrangement of styles and something a little special in each song that pops out the more you listen (i.e. that vocal stutter in “Leave This Place Aloneâ€)
The output of Mr Harper has always been enjoyable but this really boosts him into a new level. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself but I’d put this into Best Of 2015, it grabs me just that much.

Badass new video from Magnolia Sons depicting the liberation of women through the total beatdown of The Man. It’s an excellent homage to classic 60′s and 70′s action films, down to the desaturation and cheesy projection backgrounds.Â
My dabblings into the works of The Breathe In, Breathe Ou and their EP, Lungs, has taught me that “Honey Guzzler†is, for me, their finest jam. It’s dark, builds in tension and the vocals are as offputting as they are alluring. Honestly, it’s that somewhat manic style that kept me listening – I’d love to hear more in this style.
It’s interesting to hear a full fledged release from BUMMRcity. On one hand, it a bit more drug addled and lo-fi  than the prior “Freakout†track on their Spaghetti Split. On the other hand, its dumb to judge a band on the merits of a single song. Additively, there are some solid covers on this EP, particularly the Ted Lucas finale song. I continue to be curious to hear more from this outfit.
Pretty much the perfect combo of teasing anticipation and enjoyable weirdness. Kind of like JEFF in general.
