Adia Victoria – How It Feels

Adia Victoria just released a brand new EP featuring three memorable covers and one new track. Oh, and every track is in French. The first three tracks are known for their association with Serge Gainsbourg, France Gall and Francois Hardy but all carry the creepy, foreboding tone that’s Victoria does so well.

BT Indoor Soccer

Can we all agree to work together to make this 1 minute, 20 seconds worth of music a known entity in the Nashville scene?

All Them Witches – Sleeping Through the War

If you didn’t catch it, the new full-length from All Them Witches was unveiled last Friday (Feb 24th). After months of teaser songs and anticipation the eight song beast is released and, thus far, it does not disappoint. As with much of their previous releases, it’s a slow burn of tension, dark vibes and long jams.

Kristoff Waltz – and so on.

From the sound of the posting, Kristoff Waltz is not long for this world. They released a great EP in Feb 2016 and a Christmas Compilation in December but not a whole lot in the realm of new, original, output. It’s a shame because the Innocents EP was a promising one.

All lamenting aside, they’ve released two new couplings of songs. The God Bless You, Dr. Schultz! single is two songs from the bands archive and “and so on” is the bands swan song; one new track and the bands first ever song. All proceeds go to Blood: Water Mission. Godspeed Kristoff Waltz.

Evan P Donohue – Rhythm&Amplitude (Demos)

It’s been three years since Evan P Donohue released his last album, Stairway to Evan, and seven years since his first, Rythm&Amplitude. In the absence of new goodness, I’ve turned to his Rhythm&Amplitude Demos that are posted up on Bandcamp. I’m a sucker for a demo recording and these deliver more than just something else to listen to; it’s a great peek into his creative process with that DIY production sound.

Lillie Mae “Over the Hill and Through the Woods”

Solo artist Lillie Mae has been, up to this point, known mostly for her contributions to other projects – namely as a multi-instrumentalist for Jack White’s backing band. She’ll be releasing her solo album, Forever and Then Some, on Third Man Records on April 14th, which you can pre-order here.

Long story short, the first track is available to hear courtesy of this Elise Tyler directed video. I’ve always been a fan of her aesthetic (if you don’t know her Instagram, please hop on that now) and the video is a perfect match for her style.

Happy Little Trees – We Are Little

Dan Sommers is a man of many projects – Hotpipes, POLY, My So-Called Band, Jay Leo Phillips and The 20th Century and that’s just the few I know of. He also releases his own solo creations as Happy Little Trees; which now has an official sophomore album, release date and preview streams. Swing over to Bandcamp to hear the first two bombastic tracks from We Are Little and pre-order your tree trunk vinyl.

Anchor Thieves – The Nova Riches

Last Friday, Feb 17th, Anchor Thieves released a new 3-song EP entitled The Nova Riches. The distinctive vocal style is as present and pleasant as usual but the music contained within these twelve minutes shows a band growing and exploring new territory. Whereas before they would deliver a 3-minute wallop of indie rock fueled energy, now they seem to be exploring slower builds, more intricate arrangements and plenty of new territory. “Afterwise” is the best example of the fusion of what you expect from the band and what they’re investigating now. Let’s hope they continue this growth!

Skyway Man “Plane”

From the forthcoming Seen Comin’ From a Mighty EyeSkyway Man treats us to a bunch of silly dancing in the desert seeped in rainbow effects straight out of the 70′s. If I didn’t know any better, this guy is laying the groundwork for a cult and I want IN.

The Paperhead, Chew

The album won’t be officially available until Friday, Feb 17th, but you can stream the brand new LP from The Paperhead right now over on Hype Machine. I’ve no idea how these guys flew under my radar for so long but I’ve been listening to their catalog non-stop. It’s clearly got a bevy of influences along the lines of psych folk, 70′s rock and even some Latin infused goodness but it manages to be its own thing.

Excited to get my hands on the vinyl version of this and immediately file it as Best of 2017.

Mouth Reader “Crying On Me”

It’s been awhile since I’ve heard from one of my favorite Murfreesboro bands, Mouth Reader, but they just released a single new track “Crying On Me” and it’s a promising, fuzzed-out, 3-minute riff rock jam. That’s a wordy way of saying it’s a rock track that I’d love to hear in a tiny venue making my ears bleed.
