Evan P. Donohue - Stairway to Evan

The second full-length album from Evan P Donohue has been out for awhile now and I’ve been soaking in its offerings to form a properly articulated take on it. It’s been a full four years since any significant output from Donohue and his growth as an artist is quite evident from the instant you dive […]

Make-out with Violence-  How I Became the Bomb B-sides If you’ve been paying attention to local happenings over the last however many years, you are likely familiar with the movie – MAKE-OUT with VIOLENCE. A Hendersonville undertaking that spawned The Non-Commissioned Officers and one of the best soundtracks for a movie – period.  Part of […]

Hands Down Eugene – Stoned Monument: The Tascam 388 Tapes EP

When you have the level of output that Hands Down Eugene / Matt Moody has, it’s entirely possible that some creations are going to slip through the cracks and be unearthed at a later time. Such is the case with the freshly released Tascam 388 Tapes – recordings lost from a previous 2011 session. The […]

Gay Vibes – Bone Dry / Drone By

Maybe this is being presumptuous but I never got the feeling that Gay Vibes was an undertaking that took itself too seriously. The latest release labels itself as: An abstract collection of deconstructed moments, inspirations and reflections on Taylor Swift’s 1989 Is there any truth to this or is it just an excuse to make […]

D. Striker “Tailgate”

The works of D. Striker always ride that line between subversive mockery and legitimate country homage. It’s often both but never has the balance been struck so perfect as with his latest – “Tailgate.” A rather catch-y piece of work that could be the next linedance phenomena if it hits the right audience. It certainly […]

Caitlin Rose “Cold Answer”

another excellent demo from Caitlin Rose has found its way to her Soundcloud. As with “Gemini Moon” this is a heartbreaking piece of work that I’m shocked was cut to become a b-side.  Really looking forward to whatever follows-up The Stand-In, because if this is a taste of it, I’m IN.

Natalie Prass “Why Don’t You Believe In Me”

The first track from the forthcoming Natalie Prass debut self-titled full-length album is now available. I’ve read comparisons to Eleanor Friedberger but I honestly think that’s just the hair. It’s an interesting blend of pop, vulnerability and a dash of R&B. Loving this first bit of insight into a larger narrative of works.

How I Became the Bomb – Adonis EP

Remember that preview track “Break Hearts” that recently debuted from How I Became the Bomb? Well, how about previewing the entire EP? It’s now available on Soundcloud. I am shocked and delighted.

The Subnovas – The Turn

I have one major complaint about the latest from The Subnovas – there’s nowhere near enough of it. Surprise! It’s not really a complaint. I am loving the space rock with a weirdo slint to it. Two songs is simply not enough.

Muir “Wayra”

It’s unfortunate that I can only hear the one song, Wayra, during Muir’s pre-order window for their self-titled album because I am certainly convinced that I’d like to hear more. It’s only a taste of their instrumental post-rock work but it manages to do quiet-to-loud with a little twist of upbeat energy and extra guitar […]

The Nobility

are raising funds for their next album and, unsurprisingly, turned to Kickstarter to raise awareness around the need. The video is a Wes Anderson-y affair with great camera moves and tasty Futura type – just as you’d want from The Nobility.  They’re a great band and more pop gems from their camp can only be […]

R. Stevie Moore + Jason Falkner – Make It Be

I regularly browse the offerings of new “Nashville” music tagged on Bandcamp and, without fail, there’s always some new full-length record from R. Stevie Moore – the father of lo-fi pop greatness. I’ve never found a proper entry point into his massive catalog but seeing this collaboration with Jason Falkner pop up may just be […]
