Moony – Warning High Cube

For some indeterminate amount of time I’ve had a tab open on my browser for Moony’s album WARNING HIGH CUBE. In the pantheon of alternative Nashville music, it’s an especially rare gem worth paying attention to. On its own, the record is a blend of electronic, hard rock, folk, sweeping strings, dance and plenty more. The genre blending can happen at breakneck speed; a softly picked acoustic verse explodes into a synth laden chorus that gives way to explosively crunchy guitars accompanied by emphatic screaming. If that sounds off-putting, I assure you it’s not. It’s certainly a journey but it’s not jarring in the slightest, it’s exhilarating.

Putting together an album of such diverse styles should be enough of an undertaking in and of itself but moony does not stop there. Along with the twelve track album, there is also a visual companion. All twelve tracks interpreted and performed across “three single takes in theatrical form.” The sets, costumes and dance of it is captivating. It’s a huge testament to the director and editor of this companion because it feels like a million bucks.

Somehow, incredibly, the body of work doesn’t stop there. WARNING HIGH CUBE is also accompanied by a deluxe edition EP (the [Full Lunar Cycle]) and a Live Set (I found God at a moony show). I’d say that these songs are some of my favorites from the collection but, truthfully, every bit of it is worth paying attention to.

If it sounds like I’m gushing, I am! moony (aka Seth Findley) has created something unique, interesting and immersive. Even if you don’t feel immediately compelled by the songs (start with “Infinity Idiot”, you’ll get it) you have to appreciate the scale of the work; the album, the performance, the video of the performance, the accompanying addendum album and the live versions. It’s wildly ambitious and, in my opinion, entirely effective.

Looking at moony’s Instagram – @sethismoony – it seems that the second album is on the horizon. It’s a shame I’ve neglected to write about the first one for so long but maybe it was perfect timing in anticipation for the second. The trailer for Album 2 is a massive evolution from WARNING HIGH CUBE, so my anticipations levels are high. Look for it June 1st, 2026.
