We Own This Town: Volume 14
curated by Janet Timmons / Out The Other

Janet Timmons of Out the Other was kind enough to compile all the great music featured in this edition of We Own This Town. In 29 minutes she managed to pack in punch after punch and we thank her for that.

Some Kind of Pre-Order

The Features have made their latest album, Some Kind of Salvation, available for pre-order on 180-gram double vinyl. The wax will include a digital download card to get all the tracks in mp3 as well as two bonus tracks that won’t be included on any other incarnation of the album.

Word on the street is that the vinyl version will ship on (or before) September 30th and a digital version will be ‘officially’ released sometime in mid-October. The CD version will probably wait until early 2009.

We Own This News

More news of the various variety:

Theory 8 Records will release Islands from Keegan DeWitt on October 7th, 2008. You can snag a download from it here.

Among other random bug-fixes and spruce ups I’ve added an ICS version of the show calendar so you can subscribe to the feed in iCal, Google Calendar, etc.

Have you seen The Deli Magazine? Great local coverage worth keeping an eye on.

More changes are on the way at We Own This Town, hoping to shift the focus from news purely to shows and podcasts - as incoming news is few and far between.

Odds & Ends

A few various news items worth noting (edited for brevity and to sidestep tl:dr).

Jensen Sportag Live Set

Cultural Attache Gay Werewolf has posted a free download-able live set from Jensen Sportag. You can grab it here if you feel so inclined.

Nashville rock is never in short order but it feels like lately there has been a surplus of goodness that should be appreciated. This edition of We Own This Town attempts to highlight some of the more recent releases from some of Nashville’s finest. Granted, the How I Became the Bomb track has been around for awhile but it is included here for historical purposes (and it made a good segue).

If the Meemaw track “Blue in the Backlight” doesn’t make your summer a little better you should give up on trying to enjoy music ever again. Though I personally think all of the tracks on this edition are worth innumerable relistenings.

All We Seabees bring Mkultra

We mentioned that All We Seabees would be putting out their next record via Cephalopod Records sometime in the Fall but now details are emerging left and right. The album, titled Mkultra, is slated for a September 2nd release (along with a Grimey’s instore). You can preview the surprisingly upbeat track “Alt Country” over on their myspace page. Based on that one track I’m really looking forward to this one…

We Own This Town #12

We Own This Town #12 (mp3 / m4a)

In an attempt to showcase a tiny bit more variety in musical styles from around town this edition of We Own This Town makes an honest effort at focusing on music based a bit more in the electronic realm of things. That being said, there is still plenty of guitar present and not a whole lot of the traditional 4/4 grotesque dance floor beatz. Finding material for this edition was surprisingly difficult and equally refreshing to come across a handful of instrumental and experimental bands I’d not run into before.

Next Big Nashville 2008

NBN 2008

Next Big Nashville 2008 is gearing up for another big year and recently announced wristband and VIP badge pricing. You can check it all out here but the basic breakdown goes a little something like:

  • $35 for a wristband - entry to all shows/panels
  • $100 for the VIP badge - priority entry to all shows, swag bag and other treats

The prices are bound to increase as the event draws closer so I’d recommend going ahead and getting them now if you plan to get them at all.
